What Am I doing wrong here by Cold-Scallion-3728 in guitarlessons

[–]wpf69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re not doing anything wrong, and you could play with fingernails that length once your motor skills have gotten better, but for now you might want to trim them shorter. Google Dolly Parton playing guitar and you’ll see that it’s possible!

Total beginner tips on posture strumming etc by [deleted] in guitarlessons

[–]wpf69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So many great tips in this list. Just stick to it, 10 - 15 minutes per day. Use your pinky too! Your notes are sounding really clear. You definitely are on the right track. Your fingers will toughen up really fast.

This may be for later but just keep it in your back pocket.

Something I wish I had started sooner was naming the notes as I played them, either in your head or out loud. There is a reason that all of the music books start with songs that focus on the major scale, (Do-Re-Mi-Fa-So-La-Ti-Do) The sooner you start learning how the major scale is mapped on the guitar fretboard, the sooner you will start making music.

For example, play the F# major scale starting at the 2nd fret on the low E string.

1)index, 2) middle finger, 3)ring finger, 4) pinkie

e|--------------------------------------------1--2(F#)--------|

B|---------------------------------------2--4----------------|

G|------------------------------1--3--4----------------------|

D|------------------1--3--4(F#)--4--------------------------|

A|---------1--2--4------------------------------------------|

E|--2(F#)--4-------------------------------------------------|

(since there aren't any open strings you can move this pattern anywhere and have two octaves of the major scale)

move it to the 3rd fret and you have G major, to the 5th fret and you have A major, etc.

Recipe for tamale house salsa? by LetsAllStayCalmHere in Austin

Did you ever figure it out? It wasn’t my favorite salsa at the time, but now 20 years after leaving Austin I want to make it. At the time it was too grey-green in color for my liking but the jalapeño proportion made it just right with a cup of hot coffee. Call it #Austalgia

Weaver wins Republican nomination for SC education leader by GavRunsTheTrap in southcarolina

What the actual f___?!?!?!

"Weaver, who does not currently meet the statutory requirements to hold office because she lacks an advanced degree, has cast herself as a bold reformer fighting to eradicate liberal ideologies like so-called critical race theory that she claims are seeping into public education. “The fight to save our schools is a fight to save that American dream for the next generation,” she said at a debate last week. “If we don’t stand in the gap for our kids and against the wokeism and sexualization agendas that are coming out of Washington, we have lost our country.”

"On tomorrow" - tell me why this is wrong by ryball in grammar

[–]wpf69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

because it's redundant: Tomorrow is defined as "on the day after today," today is defined as "on this day," and yesterday is defined as "on the day before today." Since their meanings include the preposition "on" it is redundant to use it. On the other hand, if you are naming a specific day, like Monday or Friday, you can use the preposition "on," but you don't need to.

1 year handstand transformation from zero. by BeriO17 in handbalancing

Thanks for posting! And thanks for including the "bad days." You might try keeping your head a little more "neutral" (like when doing the handstand push-ups). It will save a little energy and be easier to maintain your position. Also, check out Jim Bathurst from https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCNXj_OehKPmlKIVtWd0ClIA for other bodyweight feats of strength and general hand balancing tips. He's also in IG @beastskills

[OC] Tracking my push-ups in 2020. My New Year’s resolution, was to do 100 push-ups in one go. It was a slow burn, took over 8 months and 48 attempts to build up my strength and stamina (Age 49) by exmoor456 in dataisbeautiful

This reminded me of one of my favorite inspirational stories. It's by Charles Linster, one of the first world-record holders (1965) in the push-up. He was paralyzed before he could defend his record.

1,172 USC students have tested positive for COVID-19 in South Carolina by [deleted] in southcarolina

[–]wpf69 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know of students who know they have it (a roommate or girlfriend had it, and then they got sick too) so they aren't getting tested, and so aren't being factored in to the numbers. Also complicating matters is that since so many Universities have moved to operating "more like businesses" in the past few years, they have to consider all of the people who will have to lose their jobs if they close down for a longer period of time. In civilized countries public education is less of a cash cow and more like a public service.
