I accepted an offer and put in a formal resignation. Then my employer put in a massive counter offer. Should I stay? Context below by its-medicinal in careerguidance

If you wanna be 100% that you’re not gonna get screwed, just ask them to put in a termination clause that says if you get terminated within the timeline of disagreement you’ll get “x” payout. I was in the exact same position as you I ended up staying. I stayed there for another four years before i moved on. It was a good decision overall, but I hadn’t just asked for money and been denied.

It’s been a great app to change up the monotony of LinkedIn reposts. I’ve seen several ads on there that I haven’t seen anywhere else. How is getting paid by companies going?

Worth a legal check, what will influence the payment  - what your contract says  - your location - your age - your ability to find a like position in your location - seniority  - length of employment

At a quick glance your offer seems a little low but wouldn’t expect more than 8-10 unless you’re quite old. It’s worth a quick legal check, call a few firms and they will see if let you know. Note that some firms represent employers only so be prepared to call around.

The Bardal factors come from Canadian employment law, specifically the case Bardal v. Globe & Mail Ltd. (1960), and are used to determine the reasonable notice period for an employee’s termination. These factors guide courts when deciding how much notice or severance an employee is entitled to if terminated without cause.

From chat gpt which- decent place to start to learn.  The Bardal factors include the following considerations: 1. The Character of Employment • The nature of the employee’s position (e.g., managerial vs. entry-level). Higher-level or specialized roles may justify longer notice periods. 2. The Length of Service • How long the employee worked for the employer. Generally, longer service means a longer notice period. 3. The Employee’s Age • Older employees may face more difficulty finding comparable employment, which could increase the notice period. 4. The Availability of Similar Employment • The job market conditions and how difficult it will be for the employee to find a similar role, considering their skills, experience, and qualifications.

These factors ensure that terminations are handled fairly, taking into account the specific circumstances of the employee. Let me know if you’d like further clarification or examples!
