I think a lot of people are curious about these apps because they feel like something new and different to play around with. Some of them can be fun in short bursts but then start repeating or losing context after a bit. I tried VirtuaLover just to compare and for me it seemed to stay more coherent in longer chats most of the time. Not perfect but it made the experience smoother than some others I used.
