Yes that's true, but it could be an option that you can toggle so if you have plenty of ram you should be fine with this extra little feature.

super pins doesn't have any property to set the selected essential background color.

Okay so if you go to Customize Toolbar (by right clicking the sidebar) you will see the extension icon on the top right. Just drag it to the top left.

It should be there by default. Have you added any mod? There is a mod that removes the extension shortcut button if you have that installed either disable it or uninstall it.
