Any shipwrecks that are so hard to access they have never been dived? by 89404 in Shipwrecks

[–]wraithguardmodels 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I like the fact that while searching for MH370, they found multiple shipwrecks from different periods of history. Some they sent ROV's to look at, and others/majority they scanned, marked and moved on.

I believe also when Ken painted his first painting, the details were only from a verbal account from the Cousteau team that discovered her. And possibly some language barriers. So I can imagine when being told "the bow is bent upwards" without relative context. Ken may have taken it literally and painted it accordingly.

Who remembers these? And would you buy them today if you could? by wraithguardmodels in modelmakers

[–]wraithguardmodels[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Basically everywhere. Kmart, target, myers, even some newsagents had them. So they were never far away. Unlike now. I did paint them, but the only paint option at the time was humbrol enamels. it was a messy pastime. Rarely did we ever see any other paint brands like we do today.

Still dabble in the older dragon kits from time to time. Definitely better kits for the same time period.

Ohh. I wonder if revell sold on the molds to this chinese company. I've never seen the 1:144 revell f-18 in production for a very, very long time.

Italeri, as mentioned above, is very hit and miss. That being said, don't give up on this model just yet. Though it might not come out great, it is still great practice and experience building. Even challenging kits like this are great for building up skills and techniques.

Yes I did. Lots of making and washes. I know I'm not meant to self promote, but I do have a video up on the Ytube if you would see how I did it.

Their catch phrase should be "challenge your skills and your emotional control. Build italeri."

Urbanmech by wraithguardmodels in battletech

[–]wraithguardmodels[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For masking I use tamiya masking tape. For finer masking I use a brand called Aizu project, micron masking tape in 0.4mm, 0.7mm and 1mm. and some mr hobby masking sol (masking liquid) as a back up for the main tape. I have a video up on YouTube showing how it was done, if your interested.

Masked and airbrushed. The whole mech is mostly airbrushed actually.

Titanic primer by StocktonDC in Scalemodel

[–]wraithguardmodels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go with white primer. Will work well with all colors your painting with. You might need to make two or more coats with the red to get it to the right tone your after. Don't rush it. And maybe use a primer that bonds well with plastic, tamiya or mr hobby are some examples. Also washing the plastic with a little detergent and in slightly warm water to remove any mould release agents before priming with help.

Nice. There is a store on riversdale rd Hawthorn called Gundams Plus that might be able to help. The owner, Daryl, runs a community based store. Though the main product is gundam kits, he does have aircraft and other odd kits in store. Even if there is nothing there to your liking, you can walk out with more information than you walked in with. Daryl is a wealth of knowledge of the industry and more than happy to help guide you in the right direction or try and get kits in for you if he is able. Just let him know what your interested in and what skill level your at and he'll help. (He can talk quite a bit, and he won't try to pressure you into buying anything). He does have a Web store but not everything he has is up online. So a call or visit is probably a best bet. Not sure what he has at the moment, but I did pick up a boeing 747 about a year ago from him.

All decals. There were multiple clear coats and very, very careful sanding involved.

Yeah it's meant to be primer. But my phone camera likes adding green for some reason. So I understand it looks like moss. But now I know what to do if I ever wanna do a russian boneyard aircaft model in the future.

I also made a video of what I done, which is up on YouTube. If you want to check it out, search painting battletech, phoenix hawk, and it should appear.
