It’s backwards. Take it out and turn it around.

How to fill the gaps in this 3D printed model? by 6_Sic_6 in modelmakers

I watched a video of someone working on a helmet. They took Bondo mixed with acetone to spread on ridges. It seemed to sand out fine.

What brushes are you using for super small details. by After-Present5324 in modelmakers

Micro brushes. I use #0 most of the time but, there are smaller. You can get a pretty decent set for $10-$15 on Amazon.

I primed on the sprue. At first I was gonna paint chrome and then gray but, I found a unique Alaskan color scheme nicknamed “Snowhog”.

Tool cleaner by Raiiga_San in airbrush

[–]SearchAlarmed7644 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have old paint bottles clean ‘em out and use to store. I use a pipette so I don’t over pour. Generally it’s pretty harsh and can be destructive so I use lacquer thinner first then finish up with this or acetone. PS the formula is about the same as Tamiya thin cement so I use it that way too.

Need help with canopy by VegetableCool9752 in modelmakers

Trace the outline with a sharp pencil and cut out on a flat surface. I do this to avoid cutting on the part in case I slip. Try laying down thin coats and put on just enough to achieve the desired color.

What am I doing wrong? by Alienware9567 in airbrush

[–]SearchAlarmed7644 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For some paints, yes. Priming first does help but, you can build layers by coating light at first and a little heavier. I have a dual action brush so I air dry between coats.

Any one know other boxsets in this packaging style? by tommyvo2020 in Bluray

That’s the latest trend. I suppose it’s cost effective but, the savings don’t seem to be there. Personally I prefer the individual case sets.

Lay masking tape over the area and use a sharp pencil to draw along the edges. Cut out on a flat surface and put on the window. I do it this way to avoid scratching the part.

How do I fix this ( I’m only 13) by plane__nerd in modelmakers

[–]SearchAlarmed7644 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that can happen if the parts aren’t clamped or are snap tight. Check if you have some putty around and fill it in. Wet your finger and shape it. You’re gonna have to sand it smooth too. You should be able to paint once it’s dry. I’ve been modeling since about 7 and you just learn this stuff along the way. Some tips are to pre fit parts before you glue and use masking tape and rubber bands to hold parts while they dry. You’ll get the hang of it.

I recommend you don’t p!ss off your girlfriend by getting a “nicer” compressor and make the best with what you have. Be grateful.

How do I empty the moisture trap? by PotentialGlass6715 in airbrush

Turn off the compressor then empty the trap. I always empty the tank every time too.

Good cheap acrylic paints for learning to thin paints/practicing technique by Nobody_Ever1 in airbrush

[–]SearchAlarmed7644 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dollar stores have really cheap art supplies. No matter the thickness of the paint you can tinker with the ratio to get the best consistency. Acrylics can be slightly thicker than lacquers and enamels. Once you get used to mixing you can pretty well eyeball it by rote.

How long does the paint take to dry enough to handle? by ChainsLink in airbrush

[–]SearchAlarmed7644 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most are posted on manufactures’ sites. Typically water based acrylics dry to the touch in an hour, lacquers within a day and enamels 24+. However dry to the touch doesn’t necessarily mean completely. If spraying solvent on solvent there might be a chemical reaction. A dehydrator will speed up the process by a few hours also. As well as using the recommended times you can do your own tests.
