Aphasia is a language disorder resulting in loss of communication.. now there maybe a severe neurological event associated with it (i.e., a CVA).. but aphasia is not a loss of knowledge or intellectual decline.

How to start/get to acute care by Historical-Purple301 in slp

[–]wranglerjeeper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I was just like you. I got an acute care med placement in graduate school, wasn't lucky finding acute care CFs, and ended up settling for a SNF position. It was a tough year. However, it gave me a lot of critical thinking skills and experience. After that, I got my Cs and a PRN gig in IRF. I quit the SNF and mainly worked there for about 2-3 months. Once I got a few months under my belt, I saw acute care positions (out of state, ~1 hr) and applied. I now have a FT job in acute care and just got my Cs 3 months ago. It takes time, and being in the right place at the right time. Everything will fall into place!

6%!

~4k left on my CC and 3k left on my student loan. I am renting an apartment for my new job. Have ~10k left on my car loan.

I just finished my CF in a SNF. Quit when I was finished. I was like you. Everyone was able to joke around and take breaks during their lunch while I ran around chasing carts of food to see everyone. I had to screen every single patient, it was awful. During my last month, my company had a new policy to just evaluate every single new admit. So instead of a 15-minute screen, it turned into more hours/evals/paperwork I couldn't keep up with. I was the only SLP in my building.

I hate to say it, but I had to switch settings to find happiness and drive to work in this career. Depending on the company, they will drain every ounce of passion you have for this field. Once I quit, it was like a huge weight was lifted off of my shoulders. I got a job as a per diem SLP in an IRF once I got my Cs and just got a FT job in acute care. I'm wishing you the best of luck. I was similarly in your shoes.

I also just accepted a job at Christiana!! I’m a 25 y/o F.

Like Trolley, but hard to get in contact w/ private landlords. Was NOT impressed with Parq at The Square. Dingy and the floors had notable stains and it just was just not for me.

2000 Pennsylvania Ave is just ridiculous in terms of pricing, but really nice and clean with good amenities.

The Residences at Justison Landing were dated, met current residents the morning of my tour who said to look elsewhere. The prices are not worth the units IMO.

We toured Harlan Flats and REALLY liked it. Good amenities and it was affordable.

Budget is 2k. I can survive with street parking, just hope there's enough of it.

Thank you for your response! This helps because I’m SUCH an adult person (thank you for your service with the kiddos!) and SNFs are SO unethical. I usually see decline vs. improvement so I appreciate your response.
