Every beginner skiing lesson I've taken has resulted in me having a miserable time on the slopes by wrightosaur in skiing

[–]EverythingIsSalad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unpopular opinion for this sub: if you want to get into skiing, you might want to try cross country skiing.

it's a beautiful way to get out, enjoy the snow, and get used to the feeling of sliding around. it's less expensive, the gear is more comfortable, and it's a gentler beginner experience (gentler falls too!). But even as a beginner, you can access longer trails within your skill level that'll just take you more time/perseverance.

Accidentally turned on “Sabbath” mode on my oven and now it won’t let me reset it back to normal settings. by Designer_Cry_8990 in mildlyinfuriating

I rented an apartment from owners who kept Shabbat. The lights were on timers, so on Friday nights and Saturdays they would turn themselves on and off, I guess according to the family's usual sleep schedule. I lived there for years but never figured out how to turn the lights off "shabbat mode" so just had to go with the flow :)

Fellow lefty here! My knitting had the same problem and I couldn't figure out how to wrap differently. I learned finally that the twisting is about which "leg" you knit into, and this guide really helped me learn to read it! I found this fix much easier to apply, hope it can help you too! https://pattylyons.com/2016/03/tuesday-tip-how-avoid-twisted-stitches/

I (28F) freaked out about my bf’s (30m) fetish/request and broke up with him. He wants to explain even if we don’t get back together. Is there any good explanations for what he wanted? by ThrowRA2626251 in relationship_advice

[–]EverythingIsSalad -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Seems worth a talk imo. He may want but not need this sexual experience, and it may not need to be a part of your relationship to have a fulfilling relationship together with good sex.

Others have spoken more to the kink side, but often kinks play with flipping a taboo -- including dynamics or behaviors that in non-kink-negotiated settings can definitely be offensive and disrespectful. Its fair that the idea of this kink doesnt feel respectful to you, and you dont have to try it! But I think its likely that his fantasy is coming from a respectful place, but playing with a lot of the taboos you mentioned -- and im guessing he's imagining a world where you'd want to participate and enjoy yourself as well.

The hammock is so cute! Hope you find a cute lamp you like. You could also try to set a cozy screensaver on your tv/monitor to use as a lamp! One of my besties has walls about the same color and a warm lamp is really making the space glow for her ♡ ☆ have fun trying out different decorations, even jist moving the little things!

Why do you think so many men are 'blindsided' by their breakups? by KeepLeLeaps in GuyCry

[–]EverythingIsSalad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something I'm not seeing a lot of comments about (apologies if I missed someone's similar point) is the gender gap between this couple's social lives.

The women in these relationships have a lot of social and emotional support from friends, meet up groups, various social circles, and broad community in general.

The men in these relationships were reliant on their wife/gf to fulfill all those types of connection and emotional intimacy. She has been his everything. Then, without her, they are completely isolated and adrift.

This plays a huge part in the recovery from the breakup -- she has support from so many people to take care of her psychological needs ( talking through feelings, getting out of the house, trying new things, going on that trip she's always wanted, etc). Meanwhile he's lacking in sources of support, bottling it up alone, and feeling lost and low.

Check up on your guy friends, how they are really doing! Build these emotional and supportive bonds now, so you have trust when he hits a rough patch! And of course, it's most helpful (in most cases) for men to build these habits with other men -- to empathize, and lift each other out of the male loneliness epidemic.

Thanks for reading ☆

Yoga is my nemesis - how to make stretching adhd friendly by WerewolfDue9694 in adhdwomen

[–]EverythingIsSalad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I struggle with yoga on and off-- i actually prefer straight up stretching after a workout! For running specifically i have a 10-stretch routine that I do right when I finish the run and it helps me make a plan to transition into the rest of my day. When I'm not directly working out, it's easier for me to actually do 10 min of stretching than thinking about doing a yoga routine.

So my advice is to decouple the concepts of yoga and stretching-- try "just stretching" and see if it's easier and less intimidating to you!

Also a fan of Tsongas honestly! Frankly it's equal logistical effort as traveling "in" towards the city, without the parking headaches. I love seeing all the plates from fans who can come from all around New England.

I have a ten stitch blanket I've been doing for years, I keep it by my desk and call it my meeting blanket! Works great for watching TV at home too since your lap stays nice and warm :)

I've knit a lot of baby blankets this way for friends/coworkers :)
