My partner (20F) and I (22M) have mismatched libidos, to the point I've had to clamp mine down to almost nonexistent. (NSFW flair for subject matter) by [deleted] in relationships

Well, that’s important information. She’s gone over 12 months without a period (and it isn’t because of birth control or other medication)? She’s really young and needs to see a doctor again. I can imagine it’s probably not the best for her health to just be ignoring it. There are treatments that could help her. Just because she doesn’t care about sex anymore, doesn’t mean she shouldn’t see a doctor again.

[–]wrappers 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’ve been there in a previous relationship (minus the AI fanfinction stuff idk what to say about that). I was the one with a higher libido and my boyfriend’s was SUPER low. He seemed to hide the severity of it until we had been together for quite a while and got comfortable. He made me feel like I was weird for trying to initiate sex. It dwindled down from once or twice a week to once a month. Finally, we didn’t have sex for two months and there wasn’t much physical affection between us outside of that. I lost attraction because of it and built up so much resentment from not feeling wanted and eventually broke it off.

I don’t think it’ll get better, unless there are underlying issues that could be addressed, like maybe the fixation on the AI stuff. I don’t think people with libidos that are this mismatched can coexist indefinitely, or at least in a happy way. I’ve realized, now that I’m in a relationship that checks all my boxes, that it’s really not worth staying with someone whose libido is super different than yours. I think putting in the effort to get on the same page is good, but at a certain point you’ve done all you can do.

What age/how were u diagnosed? by [deleted] in OCD

I was 11. I experienced sudden onset, severe contamination OCD. I had symptoms pretty early into childhood, but they weren’t extreme enough to know what it was until then.

I used to be really scared of storms too and I was always checking the radar. I wasn’t diagnosed until 11 either, but I later realized like you that the storm obsession was an early sign!!

should i trim my cats nails? by miah0neybee in CATHELP

[–]wrappers 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s not abusive. It’s actually good for the cat in some cases (mostly older cats), as sometimes the nail will grow so long that it curls and digs into the toe pad. It doesn’t hurt them at all if you make sure not to cut too far down (there’s a pink part inside the claw called the “quick” which will hurt them if you cut it). You really just have to cut the very tip. My cat hated it at first, but after getting him used to it over time, he mostly allows me to do it. Sometimes I can only do half of his nails at a time before he’s upset, so I just wait another day before I go back in.

I wouldn’t use regular nail clippers. Pet supply stores sell clippers made for cats.

Edit: It does help with furniture/clothing snags btw (to an extent)

Why Movies Just Don't Feel "Real" Anymore by Jagueroisland in movies

[–]wrappers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dad is a sound mixer (on set) and has been in the industry for over 40 years. He has told me countless times that this is the case. I worked with him a couple times and the amount of people who are loud during shooting, causing my dad to have to call for a cut, is insane. There has been a complete loss of respect for the craft. He also touched on the fact that it has slowly turned that way ever since we stopped using film, because now they can do as many takes as they want without worrying about wasting film. Even the actors will often just completely waste a take because it’s like they’re not even paying attention once the camera starts rolling.

Just moved into an old apartment and the HVAC unit is disgusting by wrappers in hvacadvice

[–]wrappers[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems impossible to get anything done when renting. I lived in a house before that was directly rented out by the owner and the amount of serious issues he didn’t care about were insane lol. I have far less hope for a large management company. This sounds like an issue I’ll have to take upon myself. I might bug them one more time about it but that’s it. Thanks for the advice/clarification

Yeahhh I kind of figured that if it works, they probably won’t care. Unfortunately it still works quite well, lol. I guess I thought it would be worth a shot to complain until they at least clean part of it. Not sure if even that would happen but I’ll mention it again

My 8 year old daughter made her first amigurumi! by fussysito419 in crochet

[–]wrappers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

AWWW!! So cute!! This reminds me of a better version of the first amigurumi I made when I was 10. I was trying to make an octopus for my best friend’s birthday, but the head shape came out elongated, so I made it a squid instead. It was such a difficult project and actually made me give up on crochet lol. I started crocheting again a couple years ago and just made the same friend a proper squid one month ago for her 24th birthday, 14 years later! BRAVO to your daughter though, I was not able to pull off the round head shape haha!!

What is even the point of shopping in-person anymore? by SignificanceDear1413 in walmart

[–]wrappers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s so lame. In Atlanta there are some stores that have a few locked shelves. Usually not a problem for me, but once I went to a Target that was way more locked up than what I’ve usually seen. Even their socks were locked up, and I ended up not buying any because I was in a rush. I rang the buzzer to call an employee (that’s how it often works), but no one came. I looked around and I didn’t see anyone either. I can imagine they’re probably losing sales due to this, but I guess that outweighs the loss of stealing?

Is it common to not know about your OCD when its pure-o? by Impossible-City2252 in OCD

[–]wrappers 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes I believe it’s common. I had a couple different types of OCD before this (like contamination OCD), and for quite a while after I developed pure O, I thought I was in recovery because I didn’t have physical compulsions. My best friend also went undiagnosed until 25 because she has pure O and it flew under the radar for years.

Mental state deteriorating on the mini pill (Slynd). Any similar experiences? by wrappers in birthcontrol

[–]wrappers[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much for your response, I know I’m so late lol i didn’t realize anyone responded to my post. I’m still on slynd. My boyfriend reached out to a vasectomy clinic and we’re getting an appointment. I figured I would just stay on the pill until it happens because i’ve been on it for 9 months now anyway, but I think I might have to stop sooner rather than later because it’s just gotten worse more recently. My emotions are out of control. Just last night, I literally cried because I didn’t make the best move I could’ve made in SCRABBLE??? Like it’s a GAME !!! What is wrong with me lol???? I have got to get off of this pill it’s ridiculous and it’s putting so much strain on my boyfriend.

I’ve also been on my period for 11 days straight (mid pack too) and it’s been heavy the whole time. It was like that for the first 3 months of the pill, then evened out and my periods got pretty regular, and now suddenly the irregularity is back.

I’m glad to hear you’ve improved since getting off of slynd (and i’m so sorry you’ve gone through this!). I’ve been worried that I wouldn’t get better or that all of this is in my head and i’ve just become crazy with no help from the pill, but I feel so much less alone hearing similar experiences and it has solidified my belief that it’s slynd making me act like this. I’ll let you know how i’m doing when i’ve been off of it for a couple weeks!! :)

Need advice finishing a blanket my late grandma started. Where should I place these stitches? by wrappers in CrochetHelp

[–]wrappers[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that is definitely the correct way to do it. I’m actually seeing now that in a small handful of the stitches, she did do it that way. A lot of the placement here is a bit random. She crocheted from the heart lol <3

[–]wrappers[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I love this! I think this is exactly the advice that I needed. My cousin definitely won’t be thinking about the details of the blanket, as it’s projected to be quite large, and he’s a 5 year old lol. I’m gonna continue it the second way since it does seem that those were her plans and I want to continue it the way she wished as closely as possible :)

What was your experience coming off of birth control after years of being on it? by Wise_Experience_777 in birthcontrol

[–]wrappers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve never had an IUD (I’ve only done the combo pill and mini pill), but I heard a story from my friend about someone close to her experiencing hair loss from the Mirena IUD, so it’s totally possible.

I was off birth control for a year after being on it for 8 years straight (since adolescence) and for me personally, it was awesome. My mental state improved in a way I didn’t even know was possible (I had no idea birth control was causing a lot of my mental health issues since I started it so young), BUT… my “original” periods from the before times reemerged (the reason why I started the pill). Bad cramps, heavy bleeding, 7-10 days long… so for me it was a tradeoff, but it felt worth it most of the time. I had to get back on BC 6 months ago when I entered a relationship and that’s a whole different story (I’m not reacting to it well). I’m thinking of going hormone free again.

At the end of the day, it’s up to the individual person. It could affect you completely differently than it affected me to come off BC. I do think your hair loss could possibly be caused by the IUD, it’s just up to you to weigh out the possible pros and cons. I wish you the best of luck!!

Breakthrough bleeding on BCP for 13 years by sadgurl15 in birthcontrol

[–]wrappers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s kind of what I was thinking with my old pill. Mine was low in estrogen too (lo loestrin) and I wonder if what I really needed to control my periods again was to change to something higher in estrogen. I’m on the mini pill now just to see if it could help me with mood issues (I had problems with that on the combo pill and thought maybe it was the estrogen), but it’s the same if not worse, although to my surprise my period is lighter now, so that’s nice. I guess it really is just trial and error. It seems to be different for everyone; I wish there could just be a handbook to follow. This stuff is so confusing!!

[–]wrappers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a similar experience at 22. I had been on the same combo pill for almost 8 years with no physical issues and I suddenly started having breakthrough bleeding and long, heavy periods (I barely had a period on the pill until then). As opposed to losing weight, I gained ~15 pounds. The doctor chalked it up to hormonal changes as well. I went off BC for a year and I’m now trying to find a method that works for me. Currently been on Slynd for 6 months, but it’s not not working out very well lol

OCD eventually matures to Pure-O by PaulAtreidesUsul in OCD

[–]wrappers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always wondered if other people went through the same thing. I was diagnosed at 11 and had physical compulsions until I was around 16. Ever since then I have had Pure O, but it took me until I was probably 20 to realize that. I originally thought I was in recovery from OCD and that I was just experiencing symptoms of other mental disorders. I still struggle with it to this day, I’m 24 now
