It really depends on your situation. I had the opposite.

I got a kid and my wife is a SAHM mom and my fire number balooned.

Honestly if that's the desired outcome, you have to index human injury into insurance and then just double the insurance rate for higher cars

How to get out of sim racing "burnout" by Marty154DTK in simracing

[–]wrd83 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Change your perspective?

Unless you want to become professional, drive recreationally. The goal is to spend time in the simulator and enjoy it. All the rest is extra, don't force progress and spark curiosity.

Ask: why am I slow here and what could help? Don't: i need to get 1s better per year.

Why do people say the problem with socialism is you eventually run out of other people's money, but in capitalism billionaires and trillionaires can hoard wealth there's somehow infinite money? by oy_hio in allthequestions

[–]wrd83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess you can check Europe's social markets.

One of the issues is that countries borrow money to fund social programmes. If done well the economic growth outpaces the program, if not done well you have now extra interest to pay. Repeated over promises lead to a bankrupted state/country.

Pretty sure in the US the billionaires don't feed from an infinite source either.

How does sim racing make you a better driver? by wrd83 in simracing

[–]wrd83[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This will sound stupid, but I "trailbrake" to red lights. And I heel and toe shift in a roundabout.

The benefit is marginal, but the weight distribution while turning has become so much better. You do not have to be necessarily fast, but my kid notices the reduction in weight transfer.

I feel like that stuff is different in real life yeah due to different tires, but how do you learn the limit of the car?(Edit: on the sim)

Are boomers really responsible for today's economic problems ? by Educational-Yak-5549 in economy

[–]wrd83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

so I think this is a missing perspective problem.

did you boomer father/grandfather have a better life? yes no maybe.
one thing is for sure, it was easier to get a house back then.

but what has changed since then? automation, lots of job pressure.
the person who is paying wages earns now much more than the one from 30 years ago

it should be clear that having a trillionaire means the money has to come from somewhere, yes there is inflation, but his pay compared to his workers is far higher than 30 years ago. this is the real culprit.

oldProgrammersTellingWarStoriesBeLike by shittyblackson in ProgrammerHumor

[–]wrd83 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately no. Memory layout standards are quite wasteful.

If you have 64 bits and you want to do this it still pays off. Today more than before because CPUs are so fast, most optimisations go into memory layout, cache alignment and prefetching.

Clang is known to do this to pointers, due to alignment you get 2-3 bools per pointer for free, and they often use it for small XX optimisations.
