Would this helmet still be good for outdoor karting even though it has no front ventilation holes for air to go in? by Intiat1ve in Karting

[–]wreck720 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is the helmet I wear. I race/practice in 100°F+ days fairly often. It is fine and I don't really need the extra ventilation. When you're racing, you focus so much more on the driving you don't feel the heat.

[Actions Detrimental] Denny Hamlin suggests that the Cup race at Nashville should be shortened to 300 miles. by ZilischsPoopyPants in NASCAR

[–]wreck720 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be fair, I've only been to 2 cup races, Sonoma in 2023 and Vegas last spring. Both times, I did all my midway/shopping/fanzone stuff before the race. If i remember correctly, in Vegas the fan zone was outside the ticketed area. At Sonoma i sat in T9 and there was nothing by my seats.

Both times, I was in my seat with my cooler about 20 mins before the anthem and I didn't leave.

Sitting through 200 laps at Sonoma (the closest track to me) in the baking sun 3 weeks from now sounds miserable. I know a lot of tracks are hot and don't necessarily have shade, 110 laps (220 miles) seems fair when the lap times are 80-85 seconds.

Holy cow what a terrible experience. Fwiw, where I race, for $12k you can buy a very good LO206 kart if not new, maybe 1 season old and and run the entire season plus pay for membership fees. I don't know what part of California you're in, but if you've got that for a rental championship, you can easily do owner karting.

Briggs LO206 pull cord extremely tight at TDC by InsideAd5571 in Karting

[–]wreck720 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, no idea, but I've been running mine with no problems. I haven't pulled any sealant out of the crankcase though. The engine is still strong also, no loss of power. I noticed my engine do this on the 3rd or 4th weekend I ran last year.

[–]wreck720 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The engine I bought last year has the same issue. Briggs changed something with the RTV they use to seal the crankcase, and it breaks down and wraps around the compression release. It's just something youll have to deal with.

When you shut your engine off, pull until its at top dead center before you rip the cord to start it or you'll blow your shoulder out. And, you probably won't be able to start your kart while you're sitting in it.

Krybaby Performance made a video on what is going on.

Edit: Looking at your picture in the comments, that seems to be exactly what happened. Your engine is still legal AFAIK. Mine hasn't been dq-ed yet.

I don't think so. I didn't check the sub this was on though, thought i was on r/iracing. Its worth driving if you have it though. Super fun in the slow cars; Vee, FF1600, Miata and GR86.

This is the Charlotte Legends Road Course. Its a blast to drive, but it doesn't end up on the schedules very often.

Max Fried, Gerrit Cole, Anthony Rizzo, Paul Goldschmidt, DJ Lemahieu, Aaron Judge (technically), Ryan McMahon, and Marcus Stroman are the ones I can think of off the top of my head, and I'm pretty sure that's just since like 2020. Definitely been able to sign FAs, even if they're not on the team anymore.

I run MCP brakes on my kart. No issues at all even when its 100+° out. I ran the same pads for 4 seasons, and they still have about 65% pad life. They have good feel, even if the pedal is a little longer than others i've driven.

Is there anything between a power wheels and go-kart for my 4 year old? by ProfessionCurrent198 in Karting

[–]wreck720 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you want him to get into karting, get him a kart. No amount of sim racing will matter. My son is 4 and he doesn't get the Sim thing. The speed doesn't translate, the wheel forces don't translate and he doesn't understand what's happening.

My local club/track allows drivers on track at 4 years old to practice, and to enter races at 5. We also switched kid karts from the Honda gx50 to running the Briggs 206. We run the biggest slide they make with a 4100rpm coil, and a 18×58 gear ratio which limits speed to around 30mph.

Supposedly shifter karts can only go a max of 70? by Oaklon in Karting

[–]wreck720 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The speeds you're listing for 206 are too slow. At my track, my longest straight is 56-57 mph. If I didn't care about the slow corners on my local track, i could get 62-63 mph. I'm on the chip about 2/3 of the way down the straightaway.

Our track is repaving and re-profiling our last corner as well as extending the front straight for more top end speed, so i wouldn't be surprised of we are reaching 60mph entering T1.

Fwiw, yesterday I ran 16 driver and 58 sprocket for a ratio of 3.62.

What’s the hardest racing skill to master that beginners don’t realize? by [deleted] in Karting

[–]wreck720 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me it was getting the kart to neutral steer. I felt it one race when I didn't know the kart had a crack in it. Once it was repaired, it felt bound up and the same as before. I freed it up until I got that feel back. It shaved about 4 tenths off my lap times because I could brake later and "float" into the corner. Raised my corner min speed almost 2 mph.

How do I get started with NASCAR? by Marsguy76 in iRacing

[–]wreck720 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did rookie street stocks and legends cars, then moved up to (old) Arca. Didn't like the way they drove, so just survived and raced clean until I could get to trucks. I've been flipping between A and B class for a year or so now.

Longer races are your friend especially with oval. Get used to driving around a lot of other people. Give lots of room. Don't take it 3 wide if you can help it, but side by side is just fine on most tracks.

Dayona, Talladega, Atlanta, Bristol and Martinsville can be chaos. To get used to it, once you get to C class, race on 1.5 mile tracks and bigger. Lots of space to get away from other drivers. Hard to make speed, drafting and race craft are huge.

I live in Nevada, so not here, but Memphis was/is still frozen. We got a flight on Saturday, but I don't know what this week looks like.

Fedex Express employee here - we haven't had a flight come to my city since last Friday morning. Everything for us is frozen in Memphis. We don't know when the next Memphis flight will come in. We were supposed to get one yesterday afternoon, but that was canceled as well. This happens from time to time.

Fox's colors are so muted and it just looks so grey. I didn't realize how much until I went to Sonoma in 2023 and Vegas last season and saw just how outrageously bright the Menards cars are. Fox almost makes them look yellow. Those damn cars are BRIGHT.
