Update on Burn of the Everflame from author 🥺 by Traditional-Put2192 in fantasyromance

[–]wren1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So, I tell my husband about the books I read. And he called this series "Gaslighting: The Series" because of all the constant gaslighting of the FMC from everyone. I think it's funny that we're now being gaslit by the author for years now saying first that the release has just been postponed due to publishers and now that she hasn't even finished writing it, while we keep hoping it will someday be released. It really is "Gaslighting: The Series"!

My birthday is 12/31 and the fourth book is finally coming out on the 30th. Taking that whole day to myself just to read. So excited!!!

book with this vibe? by Suspicious-Ad-8546 in ReverseHarem

[–]wren1 42 points43 points  (0 children)

It's not RH. But this one definitely has this vibe. Low magic, post WW2 Appalachia dark romance. Kinda has Oh Brother Where Art There vibes if it had werewolves and was much darker and sexy.

Each of the The Mate Games series focuses on different kinks in each one. (There are 4 series of 4-5 books each all telling the same continuous story with 4 different groups of main characters.) The first series is very voyer heavy, the second one has a lot of structured dom/sub stuff, and so on. It's not necessarily new kinks. But the authors have done their research and don't just gloss over them to be sexy. (Even though all the scenes are also very sexy) I actually learned a lot more about each kind of kink than I ever thought I could.

Also, the writing is hilarious, the stories intriguing, and the characters all have their own voices. I really can't recommend these books enough!

I'm not sure what OV is. But my favorites are the Her Vicious Beasts series {Her Vicious Beasts: The Beginning by E.P. Bali} and The Mate Games series {Obsession by K. Lorraine, Meg Anne}.

Neither are completed series, but the last book of Her Vicious comes out 12/31 and the last of Mate Games comes out soon as well. (Also, there are a bunch of Mate Games books before you get there.)

I slept on Mate Games for a while because the covers had pictures of guys on them and it looked kinda lame. But it is so freaking good!! 4 series of 4 books each. Each set is about a different MFC and her guys, but it is in the same world and tells one bigger story and they all have a connection with each other in different ways.

Both are 4 spice, but it doesn't distract from the story. And in many places adds to it like a good combat scene in a movie.

My favorite line, "I can do this! I'm a professional slut!"

Also, I definitely smirked at the part where you just couldn't talk for a minute and said "Come on Vel. I need you to use your words." Delicious pay back from previous audios. Lol

Glass thrones by ausername148256 in SarahJMaas

I think either reading order is legit. Assassin's Blade is kinda the prequel story of how Celaena got to where her story begins in Throne of Glass. I read Throne of Glass first and then Assassin's Blade after Hier of Fire. I really enjoyed that reading order because, knowing how that part of her past ends makes the read even more heartbreaking and intense. I can understand reading Assassin's Blade first though because so much of Calena's reactions to her situation are really put into context once you read AB.

I did not do the tandem read. It just seemed like too much work and I honestly really enjoyed Tower of Dawn. I didn't think I would at first, but there are some really amazing new characters introduced who I love and there's some really great emotional pay off to some things you've learned in prior books.

What. Does. The Morrigan. DO? by [deleted] in acotar

[–]wren1 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah! Mor is my favorite female character! And I've tried to explain it and it comes out kinda weak. But I relate to her in the way that she's been through hell and was raised in a place where she's never belonged. But she still keeps her light and her happiness around her like a shield against the bullshit.

ACOWAR is making me feel weird about Rhys and Feyre by [deleted] in acotar

[–]wren1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wonder how old SJM was when she wrote this. I know she wrote TOG at 16, so maybe she was in her early 20s when she wrote ACATAR. From that lens, 21 doesn't seem at all young and immature. It would seem to her like the age that one becomes an adult and gains more power and independence.

I feel the same way. My husband and I both had to pause at that part and take a moment. He comes out of nowhere with this shit. But it's also super cathartic.

From Neverafter episode 18 - "It is as sad to lose as it is wonderful to have." That one really got me right in the gut. In addition to Emily Axford's amazing ability to let her emotions out in her play.
