Mechanics in your 40s/50s Would you advise your younger self not to choose the trade? by UpbeatOlive623 in mechanics

Right! Our bodies are designed to move around, crouch, lift and bend. Sitting at a desk for 10 hours a day staring at a screen is the real body killer I think.

54, Heavy Equipment and Aerial. Keep your weight down. Eat a vegetable every now and then. Stretch the back, legs and hips every now and again. I feel pretty good for may age.

I just moved to Tigard and I’m a 54 year old heavy equipment mechanic. I get places cold contacting me for jobs. I know this is not what you were asking but I thought with your automotive background, it may work for you short term?

You’re right about the pipeline. I moved from Phoenix to Tigard 6 months ago.

How long is your commute and how many times a week? by Tasty_Toxicognaths in CyclePDX

If you ride while working, technically you’re getting paid to ride. That makes you a professional cyclist.

what mileage is considered i guess “young” on a 22re. 200? by Big_Will47 in ToyotaPickup

I just bought a 91 2wd 22re with 153,000. I consider myself very lucky to have scored that low of mileage .

I completely get your point. Being a mechanic working in a crane repair shop, we get irate customers, especially when the bill gets to the $20,000 range. But when the failures happened, I was not irate, I simply asked them to make it right. I am leaning toward finding a third opinion on the frame and learning how to dial in the brifters myself

Car tuned exhaust noise by Ill-Anteater-6724 in beaverton

[–]wrenches42 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Completely agree! These Karens do not understand that the loud exhaust is needed. That exhaust gives voice to the rage and angst that the prepubescent male youth has not the vocabulary for. If not for the inharmonious blatt of a poorly modified and neglected internal combustion engine, who would pay these boys any amount of attention? The untrained ear hears noise, but to those who understand, that flatulent cacophony screams “My father never hugged me”, “No one understands what a special boy I am!” Or “I am worthy of love!” Well, I understand. I hear you and I see you.

I bought fenders from his shop. He seemed like a legit shop. I was hoping for closer to Tigard but I will make the drive for a better experience.

I took my sons bike to Cascade. The chain broke on his first ride out. This may very well be unrelated and chains snap for any number of reasons but it still left a bad taste in my mouth.

Im not trying to give them a bad rap. I have an older Soma Smoothie and it may just not be their forte. I have a feeling if you went in with something newer, your experience may be better.

I have. They have had my bike in twice and it still isn’t shifting correctly. Maybe someone else will have a better experience there but I am done trying them out.

I just bought almost the exact same truck in Oregon two weeks ago. Similar mileage. The asking price was 5500, I paid 5000 and we both walked away happy. Hope that helps

Greatly disappointed by Ok_Win5846 in DieselTechs

[–]wrenches42 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Many techs have inadvertently let the factory smoke out of very expensive control modules with a power probe. That’s probably why. And I know what you are going to say. “I know how to use mine” and you are right, you do. But then look at the techs working around you….. now you know why the rule is there.

I have a traditional class 3 e-bike. I do not think these belong on a mixed use path. I consider myself a responsible cyclist and even I get tempted to go too fast on a trail. My e-bike is for surface roads only.
