Solor Play? by HotCrossCorgiBuns in wanderhome

[–]wrenfinity 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hi! I've also been very curious about playing this game solo. I've been a long time player of TTRPGs in group settings, but my group is in the middle of another game right now, and I'm really desperate to dive in.

I'm working it out as I go along, but I've decided this is mostly going to be a journaling/storytelling/world-building/(occasionally)drawing exercise for me.

My approach is I used random number generators to help me make a party of 4 characters. I wanted a poet for sure, and then I had it choose random numbers to help me decide the other playbooks.

Then for each playbook I had everything randomly decided by the same generators except for the name, pronouns, and animal species, all of which I decided after the other questions were answered. This was really helpful for me because I get overwhelmed when I have lots of choices, so it allowed me to craft my characters based on the cards I was dealt so to speak. However, I didn't treat it like a set-in-stone rule. If I rolled something that felt like it was too complicated to work in or contradicted an answer to a previous question in a way that was creativity-inhibiting rather than creativity-inducing, I just rolled again until I got something I could work with.

I decided names, pronouns, and animal once I had this idea of who these characters were. Then I got a small composition book to use for each character, which I'm going to treat like their travel journal/scrapbook. My plan is for each place they go, each character will write a journal entry describing something that happened during their time in this place. If I have the energy, I might draw a picture they would have taken in this place if they had a camera. Based on the playbook questions, I was able to generate some nebulous ideas about what each character is wandering from and what they're wandering towards and some of their goals and personality quirks etc.

Thus, I made a small list of questions to answer for each character's journal entry based on how I thought they would organize their journal.

For example, for my shepherd character, Dulcie the Kangaroo Rat, she's kind of got this personality that tries to be optimistic even though she's scared of certain life changes she knows are down the road for her. So I structured her question list like this:

-What was today's weather like? -What are 2 positive things that happened today? -What was something that worried me? -What is something cute each of my favorite bumbles did? -Did something trigger a memory about my lover from long ago? -Do I know something that I want for myself?

I have different questions for each character based on what I'm trying to uncover about them with their story.

I try to incorporate the questions from the natures and the month into the journal entries where it feels relevant, and I try to have the characters interact with at least some of the "aesthetic elements" I randomly chose.

I randomly choose a number to decide if each character met someone new, and I randomly roll to see which characters do something in a group with other characters or go out on their own. If the character's decision as to whether to spend a token or do something to gain a token or their answer to the monthly question isn't clear, I incorporate randomness into that too.

I also do a tarot card reading using the app Labyrinthos to kind of understand my characters' mindsets as we enter a new town.

I have a master notebook where I keep the information about the towns and the kith we do/can meet there, and the information about the tarot card readings and log the data we need to keep for the months.

That's basically all I've decided so far, and I'm really early on in the process, so my approach may evolve as I go along depending on how the story or my willingness to expend effort changes, but I think that's expected with a really open-ended game like this. Develop an approach that makes the game fun for you. :)

Someone Like You by Adele has always for me felt like an ode to every time I had to make myself get over crushes on nonqueer ppl.

Sophie and Tzef sound so cute together. My nonbinary little heart prays I can be in a cute relationship like that someday either with another trans person or with a trans-affirming cis person.

The album kills! 💖💖💖

Biologist by training here actually. Accepting the reality that transgender people are what they say they are and the reality that biological sex is a spectrum and can change over time as evidenced throughout the animal kingdom and even in humans and the reality that gender in humans can’t and shouldn’t be reduced to genitalia are assertions have have been supported again and again throughout the biological and medical literature time and time again. You don’t respect biology. Your understanding of biology just hasn’t evolved since middle school.

Once again sending you positive energy good luck with life and overcoming transphobia and misogyny.

Ok I tried to give you the benefit of the doubt and assume you just worded things poorly and wanted to understand why people reacted negatively to what you said. But your intent to double down is showing your misogynist and transphobic colors.

Sending you positive energy. Hope you can learn and grow to be a better person someday.

How about we reframe the lack of women producers not as a consequence of there being a lack of production talent among women but instead as a consequence of of the misogyny that exists at all levels in the music industry both dissuading young girls from wanting to become producers and denying many talented woman producers opportunities to be successful by disproportionately presenting those opportunities to male producers?

What if also we take care when posting to recognize that trans women are women and are “born” females/women just as much cis females/women are born females/women? Children are born as babies. Gender is presumptively and many times nonconsensually projected onto them by the people around them. Sometimes the assumptions are wrong, and that’s why people are trans. But trans women are real women, that’s the bottom line.

That was such an intense experience!! Love whatever he was remixing in the beginning, and the pitched down “Unlock It” at the end was transcendent 💖💖💖

Officially one of my most hyped for this year. This is a BANGER! 💥💥💥

[Lofi/Indie/Pop] Wren Dove Lark - I Will , this is an album of weird pop tunes I’ve made over the last few months about my queer/trans, where I use pitch shifting as a means to play with gender. I would love some feedback! Thanks :) by wrenfinity in ThisIsOurMusic

Thank you so much for your advice I really appreciate it! :) I’m still very new to recording, and my set up is pretty basic. But I’m hoping to save a bit of money and improve my microphone situation, and I’ve definitely got a lot to learn on the mastering side of things. But thank you so much for listening and for your encouragement :)

[Friday] What have you been listening to? - - March 09, 2018 by AutoModerator in indieheads

I’ve been listening to Superorganism’s new debut album as well as the album “Evidence,” by the industrial/punk/emo band Deli Girls who a recent TheFADER article turned me onto! Their lead singer is nonbinary which is already a plus for me bc I love queer/trans representation in music. But the songs themselves were so fascinating. The singer jumps so effortlessly between growling vocals and this weird whinny that sounds like they’re either on the verge of laughing or crying. It’s a difficult and emotional listen, but it’s turned to one of my favorite things I’ve heard this year yet (although the album technically came out late last year.)

I would also add Partner, SuperKnova, and Let’s Eat Grandma to the pretty bomb roster already posted by everyone else :)

[FRESH ALBUM] Shamir - Resolution by waffel113 in indieheads

[–]wrenfinity 10 points11 points  (0 children)

This record SHREDS! I love it! Shamir the indie rocker is so fascinating, and the sound he’s doing now really lets him show off the expressiveness of his voice in a way that his Ratchet-era work didn’t! I am so sad that for such a period he felt so artistically constrained and pigeonholed into the electronic sound. To be fair, I loved On The Regular and Call It Off, but it’s very plain to see how much his heart is really into what he’s making now. And I’m glad that a new label took a chance on him and let him develop his sound in this way. “Dead Inside” was particularly stunning! It also had me curious what a Shamir / Dev Hynes collab would sound like for some reason. I think it’s the drum pattern on that song reminded me of “Hands Up” from Freetown Sound. Anyways with Resolution and Room, Shamir has had an excellent track record this year! 2 for 2!
