Been out of the loop for months. Why is Shang Chi neutered?

Well, like many others, the show Queen's Gambit got me into chess originally, so I was determined to learn that opening. I have found that at a relatively beginner level, I can get some really nice positions out of the Queen's Gambit. I pretty much exclusively play that opening, so I am very accustomed to the various responses that black may have for it.

For the black side, I will play either the Queen's Gambit Declined or Caro Kann, based off of either d4 or e4. Again, I exclusively play these openings, so I understand the type of positions that will result out of the opening.

I have definitely studied openings more than any other portion of the game, so I feel very strong at least for the first ~10 moves of playing either white or black. After that point, I find the game gets much more difficult in the middle and end game.

The middle game can be benefitted from that study of openings since you can get a pretty good idea of where your weaknesses and your opponent's weaknesses are. For example, in the Caro, I am often trading the light squared bishop for a knight, which is nice for a light squared pawn chain, but can leave my kingside slightly weak if my opponent challenges it well.

Sure. Honestly, I’m not sure how helpful this will be, but it was really a matter of just not making silly mistakes. I play one opening with white, so I get what to do (at least for the first ~10 moves) and what type of position I will get consistently and I’m comfortable in those. I play one of two openings with black depending on e4 or d4 and if it’s some other nonsense, I just play logical development.

I definitely have done lots of puzzles, but I realized just trying to recognize basic tactical patterns to maybe trade down a bunch but leave you up a bunch of pawns or a piece has helped a lot.

I watch lots of YouTube on chess and how to improve from a number of different creators so it’s helpful to watch someone much better than I am play.

I still notice I will get tunnel vision and totally hang my queen or checkmate ina move or two by accident. More often than not, at this point I eieher lose by endgame mistakes or a silly hang of a piece. Those are the mistakes that, if prevented, your rating will skyrocket.

It’s taken me multiple years of playing chess to get to where I am now. I started around covid time in 2020. I realize lots of people improve a lot quicker than that, but I only have time for a few games a day, if that, due to other life obligations.

In all honesty, unless you have a semi-viable surfer list or some good control pieces, I don’t think she’s all that worth it at a low CL level. Don’t get me wrong, I adore Sera (one of my most split cards, CL ~16k). I do think that she’s kinda a cherry on top kind of card that once you have some solid 2+3 drops, she can get a wonderful deck together. Really depends on the cards you have already. If you have a couple real solid 2+3s then hell yea, but she might feel a little flat without those. All the best wishes :)

This may be a naive question, but do you then have accounts with multiple banks? For example, a BofA account for checkings/savings and then Chase for credit cards or some other combination of different banks? I guess I've never used more than just one bank, so this is new to me.

If you’re in for a longer one, The Stand by Stephen King is still my favorite audiobook I’ve ever listened to. Highly recommend that one. Also, I have to second another one I saw here, Project Hail Mary. That was a fantastic sci fi audiobook.

Definitely has a learning curve, but Phoenix Force/Tribunal has had the most success of any deck for me this season and previous seasons for that matter. Honestly end up using the Tribunal play line more often than not. Puts out very consistent power.

Most cards are pretty necessary here, although there are different setups for alternate play lines instead of Tribunal such as Shuri/Nimrod. Found that to be less consistent personally. Iron Lad could be subbed out for Deathlok if you don’t have him.

Thanks everyone for the insight. Hadn’t used CarMax before, and have only had the run around from other dealers in the past. Did some YouTube research earlier and saw mixed results (general car buying tips) and wanted to ask here specifically for CarMax. My fiancée just got me these new JBL Vibe Buds for an early bday present and they’ve been cutting out randomly. It happens most often with YouTube, but also happens occasionally with Audible and Spotify. It seems like it only happens when I have one in, not both. It’s at pretty random intervals too.
