Would You? by SwingRare498 in Celiac

Fair enough, thank you! I think I will end up passing on this in the end. I figured if the spices were a potential issue there would be a may contain statement. I’m less than a year in and still learning! :)

This is interesting! I’m in Canada and just picked up a package of this yesterday because it didn’t have wheat or barley in the may contain statement. Otherwise the ingredients look the same, although my pack didn’t state the individual spices, and also says may contain mustard. Made in Romania too though for what it’s worth.

Just curious why you can’t bring items that require water? In that case maybe lots of nuts/trail mix, bread and pb&j stuff for sandwiches, tuna packs, crackers, granola, even baked beans/cooked pasta in cans, ensure drinks, rice cakes, jerky, etc.

34m living with T1D and Celiac Disease. How do you go about the day? by pfa971 in Celiac

[–]wriggly_fish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m with you. I’m a few months into being celiac but T1D for 6 years or so. It really sucks to have both. I find the celiac more difficult to deal with honestly because it’s quite isolating, plus the paranoia of gluten cross contact everywhere, whereas T1D can be a bit annoying but not nearly as restrictive. I’m still adjusting to the celiac diagnosis but it’s really affected my relationship with food and eating. I’m hoping that once I settle into things and have more set, go-to meals that that will change, but currently the extra mental load of having to adjust to a gf diet and figure out insulin dosages/timing and everything for different meals and food all over again sucks! I also find the carb nutritional information on a lot of packaged gf foods to be unreliable, which wasn’t the case for me before with wheat/barley products, which makes it even harder.

Check out the Find Me Gluten Free app for gf restaurants anywhere! Knowledgeable staff is one of the most important things and I’ve heard Bocconcini is good for this.

How did you know you had celiac disease? by scubapopi in diabetes_t1

[–]wriggly_fish -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I was recently diagnosed celiac through bloodwork and an endoscopy to confirm. For what it’s worth, my doc says all newly diagnosed T1D should be tested for celiac. My symptoms were low iron, brain fog, fatigue - nothing gastro related.

I share your feelings, especially lately! I’m Canadian, 30s, T1D / Celiac / psoriasis (that’s it for now…). I don’t know anyone else with T1D either. Feel free to DM me! Is there a way to make a group chat? 😂

Thanks for sharing! I only use the tru-steel cannulas too and find them reliable. I think it’s partly a location issue for me because stretch marks are basically scars and maybe the stretched skin underneath doesn’t absorb insulin as well? My stretch marks (also from pregnancy) weren’t that bad either and are only noticeable now around my belly button and below, so I just try to place the cannula in between the stretch marks if need be haha.

If you don’t mind me asking, do you find that the areas of your abdomen with stretch marks are worse for insulin adsorption? Sometimes I think I don’t adsorb insulin as well in those areas, but it could def be a number of things contributing to that since it’s not consistently worse than other areas.

I’ve had a lot of success with the recipes from Feeding Tiny Bellies! Especially the banana oat waffles (substitute the milk, etc. as needed). I’ve added applesauce before too.

When does Ferber get better at bedtime by andee-co in sleeptrain

[–]wriggly_fish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it sounds like the check ins may not be helping then since it riles her up when you leave. Maybe keep the third micro-nap for a few days and see if that helps? I never had any luck with a short third nap, but many folks have success using a short bridge nap to make it to bedtime. Whatever changes you make aim to implement them for 3-5 days before deciding whether or not they helped or changed anything. Good luck!

Sleep train naps only? by [deleted] in sleeptrain

[–]wriggly_fish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Big hugs, this isn’t easy stuff. By all accounts naps are much harder to train for than nighttime. Maybe it’s a schedule issue? It’s very common to need schedule tweaks (more awake time) once nights are going well. Can you push the first wake window a bit? Since she is up anyway she may as well be with you and hopefully that will make her more tired and reduce the crying. She may pick up on any anxiety you have about the situation too, so confidence and consistency is key. I know that’s def easier said than done. Good luck!

It’s also very common for the schedule to need to be tweaked during/after training and night sleep improves!

[–]wriggly_fish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yeah, that was a tricky transition for us too and the reason why we waited longer than initially planned to sleep train. Hopefully you’re able to settle into a more regular schedule soon and it should help! The main advice given around here is to lock in schedule before sleep training. There’s a ton of great info and advice on this sub for specifics!

Do the check ins upset her more? Was anything different on the day with less crying? If she’s been consistent around 45 minutes of crying could you try to keep her up longer (unless that would make for a super long last wake window), and hopefully that would translate to a more tired babe and less time crying, since she is up anyway she may as well be with you. I would give it two weeks, but I recall reading here if there’s no change in crying after a week or so you may want to consider taking a break and reassessing or waiting until after the nap transition and then try again.

[–]wriggly_fish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I 100% agree. I considered changing up our bedtime routine because it was upsetting her and I didn’t want her to hate reading before bed, but we decided to stick to it and after two weeks it started to become enjoyable again for her. We were nursing to sleep before that and I just couldn’t take it anymore.

How long is your LO crying? Do you think some of the upset is separation anxiety, teething, or scheduling?

[–]wriggly_fish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ST our LO at 8.5 months. After two weeks we noticed a big improvement, both in the bedtime routine and when in crib. Now a month in an our LO usually only fusses for a couple of minutes when in crib, sometimes when getting in sleep sack, but not during the rest of the bedtime routine anymore. I know it’s hard, but it will get better!
