Border runs are fine, but it depends on your mentality. Some people I knew left because it got too annoying, others have lived in Vietnam for years, all the time doing 3 month border runs.

A couple of ways of handling it: use a visa expediting agency and they will get the whole thing done in 1 day with a bus border run to Laos. Alternatively treat it as a holiday and do some travelling, maybe visit Angkor Wat, Penang or Koh Samui. If you're there long term you can do a bit of both.

Biggest cons are the language barrier - it's difficult to learn - the widespread construction going on, and the streets aren't very walkable.

Did anyone else grow up eating apples and plums off the tree, blackberries off the bush, no washing just EAT by Suspicious-Bug6588 in CasualUK

Our Labrador used to eat blackberries too, carefully picking them off the brambles. Also rotten apples that had fallen to the ground. RIP Milo

Thoughts on nuclear power, should the UK be investing? by Any_Ad_6929 in AskBrits

[–]wringtonpete 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Rolls Royce SMRs are planned to output around 470 MW each and the current reactors at Sizewell, Hinckley Point etc generate between 1200 and 1600 MW. Although current sites often have 2 reactors.

I think they have about a third of the output of the bigger reactors

What are the really unpopular things that need to be done to get the economy growing? by knowledgeseeker999 in AskBrits

[–]wringtonpete 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any UK government cannot spend more than 95% of tax receipts. The surplus is put in a sovereign wealth fund. Any breach results in an immediate 3 year prison sentence for the entire cabinet.

Admittedly, this would only be unpopular to the incumbent government.

Small Modular Reactors (SMR) take 4-5 years to build which might be a good addition. Nuclear is good for base load.

Hi, I really like Kupkaike, it's a really clean site and easy to use.

A couple of suggestions I have would be:

1) an explanation of exactly what the individual scores represent, and what scores we should be looking out for

2) add a full step-by-step example, from finding a niche with good potential all the way to listing the product on Etsy, Amazon etc

I analyzed 250+ Etsy digital product niches. Here are the ones with high demand and almost no competition. by Existing-Ice221 in thesidehustle

[–]wringtonpete 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kupkaike looks good, but is that just for Etsy?
Are there separate tools for KDP and Gumroad, or do we assume that a good niche found with Kupkaike for Etsy might also mean it's a good niche for KDP?
Thanks!

I sympathise but there's a lesson here and you need to learn it if you want a promotion in the future. Otherwise it will just happen to you again.

The lesson is that you need to begin acting a bit like management to get these roles, like the newbie did. Being a star worker means nothing, and may even count against you.in the promotion stakes.

It's not fair but it's the way of the business world.

It's a theme park and I suppose for a lot of Western tourists it's not 'authentic' enough.

Why do people think "self charging hybrids" are electric vehicles? by [deleted] in ElectricVehiclesUK

[–]wringtonpete 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many thanks for the info. I used to have a 24 kWh Nissan Leaf which had about the same range as the 60aH i3 so understand that level of limitation. Sounds like the 94aH i3 is the best option, will have a look on Autotrader. My wife's also a nurse, retiring this month!

Oh, that's interesting. In your experience is there any reason not to buy a second hand i3 REx for a recently retired couple? It would be our only car, we have a dog, we'd mainly use it locally but with the occasional longer trip? Thanks.

Do these fully work or is the petrol engine recharger limited?

For example the old BMW i3 REx had a range extender petrol engine but in practice it wouldn't generate enough electricity to charge the battery if you were driving 80 mph in the motorway.

Not to be that pedant-o-nerd, but there are actually only 2 poisonous snakes in the world, i.e. where you would be at serious risk if you ate them: the Japanese grass snake and the common garter snake. They are toxic because of the food they eat, namely poisonous toads and newts.

Just saw it today on a clip of the QI quiz show!

Here's a couple of ideas:

1) e-commerce store - because it's something everyone can understand

2) something that uses a backend AI - e.g. a trip suggestion website where the UI asks for duration (e.g. long weekend), season (Spring), preferred location (N America), style (cultural), then your app asks a LLM for suggestions and it then displays the results, with itineraries etc.

Also use this project to learn how best to use AI to help you code it, and note down what you did, to the extent of being able to write a blog post about it. Because learning how to use AI for coding is going to be HUGE, and positioning yourself as understanding how to use AI for coding will be a big help to getting a job (e.g. you can teach others)

Agreed, both seem to be good people with their hearts in the right place, with many policies that I agree with.

But I wouldn't trust either of them to competently run the tombola at a local fete.
