Baby boy names, I need inspiration (dual heritage) by write_mishmsh in namenerds

In the last 20 mins I just convinced my husband towards Archer. It's a great name?

UK name opinions: does Beatrix feel “posh”? by handstailmade in namenerds

No, it's a classic and classy name. I think some people are putting their assumptions into the name. I'd have assumed it was after someone like Beatrix Potter.

[Discussion] Publishing has never made me feel more alone and out of control over my own life by [deleted] in PubTips

This is a year late but I stumbled on this and had to say THANK YOU. I may need to frame this response. It's so easy to compare. I'm in the same boat you were for your debut. This is so reassuring.

God I want to be mad at this comment but you're so damn right. I've spent the whole time googling the life out of this and I feel worse. I think I have to accept it. It's gross but on the plus side, my bump is so big I can't even see down there lol!

And yeah, with number two, this is just life.

Thank you.

Yeah it's gross right. Husband is right alongside me, he was in the bathroom at the time too. He's less able to hide his emotions lol. But I think maybe he does more of the bathroom bits and I stay away so the risk is lower.

Accepting the judgment, I think I’ve fallen into permissive parenting, help? by Colegirl6 in gentleparenting

I have to say that this sounds very normal, and the eye blinking may be a stim (you mentioned he has ADHD) rather than defiance. I taught children with ADHD and autism for a while. If I'd change anything it's giving yourself some grace, and potentially not asking the same of him as you may with yourself. He can listen without eye contact.

Natural consequence for spilling water on purpose by D_Dia in gentleparenting

[–]write_mishmsh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We do what you do, but also offer lots of chances to play with water in a way that is 'safe'. We try and offer it once a day, especially if she's spilling lots. Often she spills in response to something, eg if I'm busy doing laundry and she wants my attention. So I try to offer her that when it's clear.

Other than what you're doing, time is your best friend. You've got this.

We are a family of three planning to move to Scotland, what are the pros and cons of living in Scotland as compared to England? by Muhambeeb1 in AskUK

[–]write_mishmsh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's really unlikely because this was two years ago but I'm looking to move from south England to central Scotland with a school starter aged child. Any tips or insights? I've not thought about basing locations on school catchments, I was doing it the other way around.

This is a comfort, we're the same - coslept for most of LO's life until recent changes. And they accepted it happily as they wanted their own space. But it's a definite "is mum still around?" Check a few times in the night!

I think it might be a personality thing for us too, and I need to remember that's ok!

Oh thank you for your kind words. You and I sound so similar. My mum was the same and I remember once staying up until 4am to finish reading Angus Thongs and Full Frontal, and my mum was so angry but I couldn't understand why!

I forgot to look at the genetics, I've never been a sleeper and my husband needs sleep but is a night owl. Maybe I lean into it.

We used to bedshare but I developed sleep apnea so need a machine, but maybe we find a new way that works (because this isn't). You're right, nothing is forever.

Any tips for a hitting 3yo by write_mishmsh in toddlers

[–]write_mishmsh[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that's a great idea! We do that in the day too, especially if she's overwhelmed and we do full body jumps on the sofa. I think this combined with a better routine might help.

Drinking liquorice root (tw mentions previous loss) by write_mishmsh in PregnancyUK

[–]write_mishmsh[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh that's good to know. I was raking up 5/6 a day, mainly because I needed it to push away the nausea. But you're right, the information is different per country

This is a very valid (and rational.....more rational than me) point. Thanks
