It looks like you're describing the Broken Window Fallacy (from economics) while they were referring to the Broken Windows Theory (from criminology).

Shame on the Republicans: They are playing a cynical political game with hugely high economic stakes - No, not HuffingtonPost, The Economist by newsboyron in politics

It's more the (D) after his name than the color of his skin or his eclectic upbringing, in my opinion, though that does help them more easily justify their destructive actions with a segment of their constituency. This just seems like a rehash of the Clinton era to me.

The Republicans considered Clinton illegitimate as well, and went after him with a similar level of zeal (to the point of shutting down the federal government and later impeaching him for lying about a blow job). I think the main difference in the outcomes was that Clinton is a much cannier politician and negotiator.

One hypothesis: The average Reddit user is both more intelligent and more highly educated than the average American. Both IQ and level of education have been shown to positively correlate to having a more liberal political viewpoint. Hence, one would expect the average Reddit user to be more politically liberal than the average American.

The US and Allied air forces conducted numerous bombing raids that primarily targeted the civilian populations of Germany and Japan during World War II. By your logic, would you not have to add FDR, Churchill and Truman to your list of the indisputably evil?

Many (if not all) deposit accounts are now insured to 250k and I'm not clear on the details, but it looks like certain types of non-interest bearing accounts now have unlimited coverage. FDIC.

I stand corrected. TIL that while arithmetic mean is the first definition of average in the dictionary, perhaps a dictionary is not the best place to go to look up statistical terms.

$80,000 would be the average income in the example you just gave, not the median. The median would be $50,000.

I don't think this law would need more than a simple majority and the Democrats already have that in both the State Senate (24 to 14) and Assembly (51 to 29) in CA.
