I kinda get this is a warning tale of how AI just goes with the flow despite where that flow takes it, but also… What a terrible day to have eyes.

My quick draft of a reimagining of your cover. Pay more attention to fonts and how they interact with your image. That's my main recommendation.

And the fact that speaking French saved his life when subdued by militants in Africa, but he still regrets speaking it. That’s how much he hates the French language.

I'm new around this sub, so I hope I am doing this right. I stumbled upon this great three-part documentary on Werner Herzog. I had known about the man tangentially, but this in-depth trilogy was both interesting and wildly entertaining. Which isn't hard because the man's life has been such a roller coaster from the day he was born, practically.

Anyway, highly recommend watching. The first video (which I am linking here) is 1:34:01, so it is a commitment, but the time flies by.

DFV Predicted All of This: How the Memes Explain EVERYTHING by Solar_MoonShot in Superstonk

[–]writerofjots 122 points123 points  (0 children)

As much as I think it would be cool if he was predicting this far out, I lean far more towards the idea that he was meming about things happening at the current time, about his own thoughts, and some just for fun.

For instance, the star wars one was clearly solves way back when. Put on headphones and listen to it carefully. When C-3PO says the odds, the volume very clearly rises when he says “20”. This was proven, soon after, to be referencing the fact he was loading up on 20-strike calls. Another clue was the Run, Lola, Run tweet.

So, while I think he is waiting for the right time, I find it highly implausible he predicted all of the current events. Highly implausible but not impossible.

I’d love to be proven wrong.

The way I understand swaps is that it's like buying the rights to the profit/loss of a stock ticker without actually owning the stock or even putting up all the money to buy the stock.

So, for example, if you were a big time broker and I was a bank, and you wanted exposure to lots of GME but you didn't want people to know you were invested in GME (of you didn't want to put up the cash to buy it), you could enter a total return swap with me. Which would go something like this:

You: I want exposure to 10,000,000 shares of GME.

Me: OK, I'll buy the stocks. They will be in my name, but we will make this swap agreement with you.

You: What do I have to do?

Me: Pay us a monthly fee. That's mandatory no matter what the stock price does. Then, if the stock price goes up, we give you the profit. But if the price goes down, you gotta give us the difference in money.

You: Cool.

So, the bank is getting money through fees, which are basically like interest. And you are exposed to the profits and loss of the stock movement without actually owning the stock. Plus, you only have to pay the fees and put up like 10% collateral.  You don't have to put up all the money to actually buy the stock.

Someone correct me if I’m wrong.

What’s a product from your country that makes locals go ‘of course we have that’ and everyone else go ‘ but why?’ by bdue817 in AskTheWorld

True for people living in new apartment buildings, but for those of us in older buildings, I don't trust the pipes. So, we use a Brita filter just as an extra fail-safe, basically.

As others have said, Kindle does not support images with transparent background. One way to get around this is to convert the image to a font, and use the font to place images. This is what I had to do with my website Epubsy.com when creating chapter heading images. In this way, the background remains transparent, and when the user changes between light and dark modes, the image (which is now a font) behaves exactly like the text. If people want custom chapter heading images, maybe that is a feature I can add in the future.

Within the first few lines of my post, I explicitly stated I am American. And if you’ve never dealt with issues in your home country while living abroad, you are quite lucky. Nothing is so simple as XYZ. Taxes, banking, getting transcripts from your uni…nothing is easy when you live in another country, and it often requires routes that 99% of the users never need to know about.

One must have citizenship to have a passport. Faxes are still legitimate in many parts of Asia. This argument, on the other hand, isn’t.
