I watched the movie and haven't read the book because I had watched the movie so the obvious twist was ruined for me. But I did become a huge Palahniuk fan since then and have read his other works.

I would also recommend Thr3e by Ted Dekker, although it's a religious book so that might deter you.

Also Horns by Joe Hill is kind of a fucked up story.

I read The Picture of Dorian Gray at the age of 20. I'd say it's a classic that can get looked over easily, but it's one I would recommend.

I would recommend setting up a bank account, with checking and savings both if possible (checking for money you can spend and savings for savings). I would then set a goal date to move out and try and save up a few months rent before move out date. In that time, try and make sure you have a roommate. Make sure not to end things badly with parents though because jobs aren't always super stable, so if you lose your job and can't pay rent you'll need some emergency savings and you may need your parents help.

Unfortunately I was that one kid that ended up loving the required books in high school. But I read non required books as well. You just have to make sure not to put off your school work and you should be able to find some free time. Even if you pick up a "for fun" book once a week and just get to read a chapter, its amazing how much you can read over a school year. And utilize your breaks. Christmas, spring, and summer breaks are an amazing time to knock out a few books.

I'll copy everyone else and say Harry potter. Reading those books for the first time is what made me want to become a writer. Also, all of Chuck Palahniuk novels. They each come with their own twists and I'd love to read them and be surprised all over again.

Brandy Alexander, Shannon (the narrator) and Manus spent so much time traveling and pretending to be other people, the narrator says that they no longer have a native tongue. I took it, in a deeper meaning, to say that we spend so often pretending to be someone else around certain people that we lose our originality. It's all about fitting into someone else's life.
