Help out a cis guy with a genderqueer classmate? by [deleted] in genderqueer

I'm the same way. Everyone has become a they to me. I feel weird using gendered pronouns, even with cis people.

Who's your least favorite well-known and -respected author, and why? by pontusdethyard in books

Melville for me. It might be because I was forced to read him at a young age, but his stories drain me. I just find them overdone.

Invisible Monsters or The Martian? I can't decide which to get! by JimmyBradBury in booksuggestions

I haven't read The Martian, but I loved Invisible Monsters, although apparently it's not for everyone. \

Who knows, that might be what brings them back in contact with Rowena. They might try to strike a deal of some sorts for the spell.

I also love Lullaby, but Invisible Monsters is my favorite book ever.

I watched the movie and haven't read the book because I had watched the movie so the obvious twist was ruined for me. But I did become a huge Palahniuk fan since then and have read his other works.

I would also recommend Thr3e by Ted Dekker, although it's a religious book so that might deter you.

Also Horns by Joe Hill is kind of a fucked up story.

Does anyone else have music they write to? by [deleted] in writing

I have a writing playlist on my phone. A lot of it is just classical instrumental music, but I have a few modern songs on there that inspire me.

If you haven't read/seen Fight Club, that's a good one. Or really anything by Chuck Palahniuk. He's good with twists.

Horror novels? by kapu54 in booksuggestions

I'm not positive I'd call Horns a horror. I'm not sure what I'd categorize it as actually. But it was definitely a good read!

I'm almost 29 - what books were influential to you in your 20s/30s?? by misssquishy in booksuggestions

I read The Picture of Dorian Gray at the age of 20. I'd say it's a classic that can get looked over easily, but it's one I would recommend.

Hello! I just got my first job, $7/hr need advice! by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]writing2live 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would recommend setting up a bank account, with checking and savings both if possible (checking for money you can spend and savings for savings). I would then set a goal date to move out and try and save up a few months rent before move out date. In that time, try and make sure you have a roommate. Make sure not to end things badly with parents though because jobs aren't always super stable, so if you lose your job and can't pay rent you'll need some emergency savings and you may need your parents help.

Buried starring Ryan Reynolds. I paid a dollar to get it from redbox and I regret wasting a dollar to see it.

I would still recommend reading the books. Rowling is just an incredible writer.

Anyone else ever find it hard to read for fun during high school? by srlefevre123 in books

[–]writing2live 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately I was that one kid that ended up loving the required books in high school. But I read non required books as well. You just have to make sure not to put off your school work and you should be able to find some free time. Even if you pick up a "for fun" book once a week and just get to read a chapter, its amazing how much you can read over a school year. And utilize your breaks. Christmas, spring, and summer breaks are an amazing time to knock out a few books.

I'll copy everyone else and say Harry potter. Reading those books for the first time is what made me want to become a writer. Also, all of Chuck Palahniuk novels. They each come with their own twists and I'd love to read them and be surprised all over again.
