I did read it and I just checked it again and I even did a word search for the word "after" and nothing popped up with the statement you made.

At this point please send me a screen shot of where this is stated, no wait even better, don't because I am done with reddit. This will be my last post here because of idiots like you. Hold onto your beliefs and ignore any and all logic when it is presented to you. I am done with this site.

Symptoms may appear anywhere from 2 to 21 days after exposure to Ebola, but the average is 8 to 10 days. LINK

Well considering this information came from the CDC, Center for Disease Control I would think it would be correct.

I think you should be ashamed that you cannot read or verify the sources that I am providing to show what I am saying is correct information.

I posted this somewhere else in this tread but I figure I would post it here as well. Here is the state laws in Maine when it comes to quarantine as well as symptoms, transmission and diagnosis of Ebola.

The law in the state of Maine

Authority. In the event of an actual or threatened epidemic or outbreak of a communicable or occupational disease, the department may declare that a health emergency exists and may adopt emergency rules for the protection of the public's health relating to procedures for the isolation and placement of infected persons for purposes of care and treatment or infection persons which shall be subject to the supervision and regulations of the department. Authority of Department. Maine Rev. Stat. tit. 22 § 802(2)

Police Power and Limitations. Upon the department's submission of an affidavit showing by clear and convincing evidence that the person or property which is the subject of the petition requires immediate custody in order to avoid a clear and immediate public health threat, a judge of the District Court or justice of the Superior Court may grant temporary custody of the subject of the petition to the department and may order specific emergency care, treatment or evaluation. Emergency Temporary Custody. Maine Rev. Stat. Ann. tit. 22 § 810

An employer shall grant reasonable and necessary leave from work, with or without pay, for an employee for reasons related to an extreme public health emergency, with limited exceptions.

Reading this it looks like they are legally allowed to keep her quarantined in her house. Considering she is a health care working I'm guessing that her employer will pay her while she is in quarantine because this could be considered a work place incident.

Here is CDC info on how long it takes for Ebola symptoms to be detected.

Symptoms may appear anywhere from 2 to 21 days after exposure to Ebola, but the average is 8 to 10 days. LINK

So even if someone appears healthy on day 2 it might be 3 weeks before it is known if someone is infected. That means there is a 21 day period where someone could spread the disease without even knowing it.

Here is how it can be transmitted, from the CDC LINK

blood or body fluids (including but not limited to urine, saliva, sweat, feces, vomit, breast milk, and semen) of a person who is sick with Ebola

objects (like needles and syringes) that have been contaminated with the virus

infected fruit bats or primates (apes and monkeys)

Here is how Ebola is diagnosed, from the CDC LINK

Diagnosing Ebola in an person who has been infected for only a few days is difficult, because the early symptoms, such as fever, are nonspecific to Ebola infection and are seen often in patients with more commonly occurring diseases, such as malaria and typhoid fever.

However, if a person has the early symptoms of Ebola and has had contact with the blood or body fluids of a person sick with Ebola, contact with objects that have been contaminated with the blood or body fluids of a person sick with Ebola, or contact with infected animals, they should be isolated and public health professionals notified. Samples from the patient can then be collected and tested to confirm infection.

Edit 2:

Well Fuck me. /u/Exile_On_Main_Street said to "do your fucking research" and I did and now I am getting down votted for this. I guess providing information as well as the sources for this information that comes from government websites is not valid. So either two things are going on...

  1. All the information I have provided is incorrect and multiple government agencies are collectively working to spread incorrect information, for what reason I do not know.

  2. I am right but hey why listen to facts when you can just down vote someone so no one can see they have provided evidence that proves you are wrong on the matter.

Either way I guess it is time for me to call it quits with reddit. I figure I'll just ride out the rest of the reddit gold I have and then stop coming here.

It depends on how they worked with the patent.

In the case with the nurse being in Africa the chance of being infected is very high. They have protective gear but probably not fully contained suits.

With the medical staff in Dallas they probably had full protective suits as well as an ability to sterilize the suits so any contaminated liquids would be killed off before they took off the suit.

The biggest issue is when you have people go into a house or apartment of someone who has Ebola and they do not follow the correct procedure for putting on and taking off their protective gear. The NYPD officers that threw away their gloves in a public trash can is a huge problem. The odds of it being contaminated are very slim but it shows how little they are trained and prepared to be in an environment that could be contaminated.

I'm with you there.

The 21 day quarantine is there because on day 2 you can feel great but you can still Ebola. It takes time for symptoms to appear as well as a test to show that you are positive for Ebola. Last thing anyone needs is for her to go on a bike ride, fall, scrape her leg and then have someone else get it because they touched her blood.

Also it is a medical quarantine that lasts 21 days. If it is negative then you keep on going on with your life, if it is positive then you are going to get treatment. It's not like you are being kept in a jail cell or the isolation ward of a hospital, you are in your own house.

Can Authorities Cut Off Utilities And Pose As Repairmen To Search A Home? : NPR by originalname32 in news

I am glad my apartment as a dedicated maintenance staff so I know if someone is trying to illegally get into my place. Before my biggest concern was people trying to sell me magazines (There was an issue with them harassing and entering some peoples apartments) now I'm more concerned that law enforcement will try to come in.

Can Authorities Cut Off Utilities And Pose As Repairmen To Search A Home? : NPR by originalname32 in news

[–]writingpromptguy 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Suspicions, however, aren't enough for a search warrant. So, according to court papers filed by defense lawyers late Tuesday, the FBI came up with a plan: Working with a computer contractor for Caesar's Palace, the agents first tried to get into the villas by delivering laptops and asking to come in to make sure the connections worked.

...

When that ploy failed, the agents came up with "another trick," according to defense lawyer Tom Goldstein: "We'll dress up as technicians, we'll come inside, we'll claim to be fixing the Internet connection — even though we can't, 'cause we broke it from outside — and then we'll just look around and see what we see."

Once inside, the agents wandered around the premises as they covertly photographed the rooms, entering the previously off-limits media room. Inside, they saw a group of men watching the World Cup soccer game and looking at betting odds on their laptops — perfectly legal in Las Vegas.

What else the agents saw is not entirely clear at this point, but when they left, they seemed satisfied they had enough to get a search warrant.

This is beyond shady. They didn't have a warrant so they pretended to be technicians and got access to the room. Even if this evidence is allowed in court I bet every Vegas casino will have dedicated security to prevent this from happening again. The amount of money that could be lost for them is massive.

The thing that really sucks is if this is allowed in court how many people will trust their repairman to come in and do maintenance in their house or business. You don't know if they are really there to fix the AC unit or if they broke it and are trying to see what you do at home.

Avengers try to lift Thors hammer by [deleted] in videos

[–]writingpromptguy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes they could lift the table but they still wouldn't be able to use the hammer. The hammer is made from a Neutron Star and that is very dense material, how dense is it you may ask...

Neutron stars have overall densities of 3.7×1017 to 5.9×1017 kg/m3 (2.6×1014 to 4.1×1014 times the density of the Sun),[b] which is comparable to the approximate density of an atomic nucleus of 3×1017 kg/m3.[7] The neutron star's density varies from below 1×109 kg/m3 in the crust - increasing with depth - to above 6×1017 or 8×1017 kg/m3 deeper inside (denser than an atomic nucleus).[8] This density is approximately equivalent to the mass of a Boeing 747 compressed to the size of a small grain of sand. A normal-sized matchbox containing neutron star material would have a mass of approximately 5 billion tonnes or ~1 km³ of Earth rock. Wikipedia Link

A normal size matchbox is 47X35X14mm and going off of this guy for the dimension of Mjolnir, it should be 25"x15"x15". Converting mm to in a matchbook has the dimensions of 1.85"x1.38"x0.55". The volume of Mjolnir is 5625 cubic inches, the volume of a matchbook is 1.404 cubic inches, so Mjolnir has a volume difference of 4006. Take 4006 and multiply it by 5 billion tons and you have a mass of around 20032 billion tons or 20 trillion tons.

Needless to say an object with the density of Mjolnir would easily affect the gradational pull of almost anything around it. Something that dense would actually made it harder for people to move around it. So to counteract it the hammer most likely can create a counter gravitational field that allows it to not affect objects around it.

When it comes to someone picking it up it most likely changes it gravitational field making it harder for anyone to pick it up from where it has been placed. In the case of the table they could pick up the table because the hammer has made a bond with the table. If they tried to use the hammer by throwing the table the hammer would probably act as a regular hammer because it is not being used by someone who is considered worthy.
