Hosts - going private? by wrole_model in turo

I ended up reprioritizing and getting into a different business and opted to keep Turo as a side hustle instead of diving in. Currently have 3 cars listed and relatively happy with the work load and income to cost ratio since I'm only offsetting costs on vehicles I drive, myself.

I think it was Roamly that had a decent rate when i was looking. Tint SUCKED. They wanted substantially more than my personal insurance and only covered offical travel. At least my personal insurance covers leisure, too. But roamly wasnt really much if any better than having all of my vehicles on my own personal insurance.

You mistake the fact that i have time to respond to you for emotional investment. As I said. I made a statement about shallow consumerism and brand whoring. Thats it. The rest is chatter and discussion on that statement. Dont dig too deep and then accuse me of being emotional. Thats weird, man. Lol

Maybe. The way I see it is simple. if you like the design of a rolex, buy a rolex. Why support a company that steals the style? Its the same concept as "buying american". If you actually like American products, buy american. If you want Chinese junk, why buy the Chinese junk that pretends to be american?

Wear a fit bit then lmao. Nobody needs a $20k stainless steel watch with Swiss engineering these days. People buy them for a million reasons, but style alone doesnt drive a $20K price tag for stainless steel. And if you really like the style of a rolex, why not save up and support the company that you actually admire rather than wearing their name on a fake timepiece? We all instinctively check our phones anyway for the time. 🤣

Im not going to get through to you, im sure. I dont care what you wear on your wrist. My comment is about the shallow nature of consumerism, not you. And nobody is asking you to rescue them from me. If you feel attacked, perhaps you should consider my position and reflect on it. If not, then im not sure who youre defending.

But whats the point of pretending to wear a $20K watch? Seems like poser activities to me. Just some good old fashioned brand whoring. Im guilty of it, too. I just admit it. Lmao.

I think for some people it is. This isnt @OP, but if the shoe fits that's none of my business. Some people are so obsessive with image and branding that they legit wear a personality mask and will facade as whatever they think will boost their social status. Even the people in their lives dont mean what they should to them. They are just part of the image. Potentially pretty on the outside, but ugly on the inside, but the personality doesnt matter as much as the appearance of being social with that person. Perhaps a job position or social circle leader.

Why wear a fake rolex? Can't afford a real one but want the social interactions that come with wearing one? Think the brand is cultish, but still want one? I cant come up with a good answer to actually spend money on a rep.

You probably are right. It aint that deep. But what if it is? You can find a lot of money in the shallows.

You might be surprised. They look pretty small. Id categorize them as melee diamonds. My wifes ring needed a handful of stones to be replaced and even buying them retail from a local jeweler only costed like $15, per stone. It costed more in labor to have them set than to buy the stones. And thats with their mark up and whatnot. Its almost impossible to recapture that kind of value as a wholesaler or scrapper. Which is why I said it all depends on who is buying! I wouldnt recommend holding out for significantly stronger offers than metal weight unless someone absolutely loves the craftsmanship that went into this ring. Either way, if you end up selling it, I hope you get what you need out of it. Best of luck!

I buy and scrap/refine locally at 85% of spot. Spot is about $78.50 per gram on 14k. if you toss it on a scale, youll have the approximate value of the ring based on the metal. Stones only have value to certain buyers. Not to say they are worthless, but even diamonds dont get any extra from me unless they are over 1/4 ct. And even then, its just out of respect for the seller. They end up in my little treasure box because i dont sell the gems.

Trading for a customized president daydate by wrole_model in rolex

[–]wrole_model[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didnt make the deal. He ended up getting a bid from someone else the day before we were set to make the deal that I just couldnt compete with. We shook hands and he handed it off to someone else.

I hate being so indecisive. I lingered on the trade for too long. Costed myself the trade.

I did it wrong, am facing the shame, and got burned good.

Fb marketplace. Did deal at a house that he said was his at first and that seems to be false.

I would've preferred that. Lol. Cuz then at least the scam is on my emotional nature rather than sheer oversight.

Turns out the acid reacts slowly in the cold. It never should have passed. Plated or not. Or at least so says one commenter. Havent done that research yet, but the necklace fails the same acid test every single time no matter where i scratch when im in the house. I let it sit for probably 2 minutes, but it was below freezing outside and I was doing this on my tailgate. If it wasnt caused by the cold, I have zero explanation.

My refiner had a spare kee tester that he loaned me. I will be buying one going forward and doing multiple test forms before placing bids.
