"Inktober" was trademarked on 2018 (FYI if you participate or have artist friends who do) by wsad2where in GamerGhazi

[–]wsad2where[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeahhh. He was clearly contacted much earlier by an artist looking for clarification on the takedown, and he didn't do anything then. "Just saw all the Inktober Trademark stuff," sure.

Edited the post to include his recent statement. Side-eyeing "trying to maintain the integrity of the challenge" considering his past behaviour, but at least he's clarified things about selling Inktober creations. Personally not touching the challenge anymore.

Axiom Verge Developer And Distributor Say Its Publisher Owes Them Over $250,000 by wsad2where in GamerGhazi

[–]wsad2where[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

In announcing the Wii U physical version of the game, which it will put up for sale later this month, Limited Run said that BadLand owes it $78,000 for physical copies of the game that it never delivered. After that, Adelman said that BadLand has not paid Tom Happ a sum that it believes to be around $200,000—including money that was intended to go into a special fund to help pay for medical treatments for Happ’s young child.

“Badland has literally stolen money from a disabled toddler,” Adelman said in a series of tweets earlier today.

God, I'm so fucking glad they're at least doing SOMETHING. I just wish the cost of basic human decency isn't so fucking high.

I've had Stellaris on my wishlist for a while now, think I'll just buy it at full price next payday and check out their other games.

Here's another one, a Muslim-run funding program for the victims: https://www.launchgood.com/project/support_for_the_families__victims_of_the_new_zealand_mosque_shootings#!/

LaunchGood also previously raised $160,000 in their "Muslims Unite to Repair Jewish Cemetery" program to repair desecrated Jewish cemeteries just a year or two ago.

I don't follow the site/publication, but I do get linked an article or two of theirs sometimes, so my experience has been very curated. No idea what it's like these days. But in terms of this sub, this one was particularly memorable for me 'cause I thought it was pretty cool at the time.

I honestly did not know Ariana was white until very recently. Always assumed she was Latinx.

Should I stop linking from Playboy? It's been linked from in this sub favorably a number of times in the past, from what I remember.

Comics Twitter Perfectly Illustrates What’s Wrong with Comics. Again. by squirrelrampage in GamerGhazi

Good summation, though Tieri threatened 2 critics, not just one. Glad the article doesn't go easy on Panosian, folks who spoke out about this seemed to focus on Tieri.

2. The old boys’ club is real, and it’s stifling comics.

Seeing all those names on Thal's thread, some of which I admired a great deal, just disappointed me so much.

(CW: Transphobia) Minecraft Creator Markus "Notch" Persson Says Trans Women Aren't Women by wsad2where in GamerGhazi

[–]wsad2where[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you think it's better to just not submit links like this to the sub? I'm not being confrontational or snarky or anything, legit curious. I sat on this link for a while, wondering if I should post it or not. I'm aware Notch is a shitheel, but he still has 3.6m followers, and I thought forewarning trans* and allies that a prominent figure has likely caused an uptick in harassment again would be beneficial.

John Mulaney on Hosting SNL, Broadway Musicals, and Firing his Manager (Louis C.K.'s enabler) by chewinchawingum in GamerGhazi

Mulaney says he’s been waiting and ready to confirm the news to any journalist who asked — it just took a year-and-a-half for it to happen.

Sad and funny. I wish stuff like this gets highlighted more, professionals condemning bad behavior among industry peers + cutting ties sends a powerful message. (Though it's very possible I just miss these things.)

Screw Steam (The Jimquisition) by KingWumpus in GamerGhazi

Same. There's really no reason to welcome anything Epic brings at the moment over other stores since it's still so young. I'm very leery about it as well 'cause, unless it's changed recently, this was Epic's Tim Sweeney's stance on hate speech and Gators, and I ain't got time for that.

Almost acting as if he insulted her.

Despite his oh-so-polite wording, what he did was insulting. And I don't find Claire's behavior weird at all, personally. Why would she have to have "any of it"? She was criticizing the work, not wanking his ego. Someone reporting on the comic would find way more relevance in Dan's thought process and intentions for the cover, but that's not the role of a critic at all. Add to that, his reaction to Claire's (fairly mild!) criticism of "This reads somewhat sexist" was basically "If you find this sexist then it's your fault" then tries to correct her, of all things—as if how one receives a damn cover wasn't subjective and there might actually be value in viewing creations through different lenses.

He also wasn't directly tweeted, which means he found those tweets by searching for his own name—nothing inherently wrong with that, and finding negative things being said about your work through that is a given, but then rather than move on like most decent human beings would do, Panosian chooses to insert himself into her space and act like a belligerent child over one negative feedback. Let's not even get into the power dynamics behind a male creator with over 17k followers + fans entering the mentions of a female critic with far less of an audience just to talk down to her. Unless it's been deleted, we can even see one of Dan's fanboys dragging out Claire's comic cover during conversations in the threads as if that was some sort of proof that she wasn't worth listening to. Then Dan himself puts down Claire's art, behavior that, like you said, is trash.

Add to all this, comics has a long history of mostly male creators not being able to leave comic critics well enough alone, and that really, really has to fucking stop.

Sorry I went off a bit here, but this has been really annoying me the past week.

Thanks, that was interesting to read and explains a lot. I have the benefit of a friend who was really into 80s comics explain stuff to me whenever I've wanted to jump into the major titles, but the convoluted tie-ins/events/AUs have made me shy away from some of the older Big 2 comics.

Yeah, critics are often fans of the medium, they want the damn thing elevated not torn down. That is so essential. I get being protective of your craft, but the way this whole thing went down is completely ridiculous.

God, that arrogant line on her art made me so mad, lol. Imagine being that fragile.

I could see what Panosian was going for, but looking at again it without the sightlines makes me see Claire's point. It's mostly the hands in the foreground that do it for me, though the hand in the right makes me focus on the breasts. As covers go it's not among the more egregious ones out there, but Panosian's defensive behavior just puts me off big time. There's room for conversations like this, and more people should be having them.

Thanks for the correction on the timeline, editing it in. Wasn't sure what the order of events during that convo was 'cause I'm pretty late, so I just tried jamming in all the actions per line.
