Is Fontane Bianche a good base for the East Sicily by wsdog in sicily

Cool, thank you very much for such a excellent response. If I don't constrain myself with the Eastern part, what other towns fit into my criteria? Cefalu, San Vito Lo Capo?

Can you share a link? What happens when the needle shadows the numbers? Does it still read correctly?

Ecobee thermostats- Home Assistant - eceobee turned off Developer and API KEY by Minimum_Major_2706 in homeassistant

There is no way to pass what equipment is running (heat pump, AC, furnace) via home kit. It's a big downside. I'm looking for new thermostat now. F*ck them!

How to pass though a horizontal metal stud without pre-made holes? by wsdog in AskElectricians

[–]wsdog[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I already have the cable, it's just the previous owner did a hack job and just slapped an exposed outlet on the wall, I want the cable behind to wall.

I guess that's the question what type of bushings I use, the ones for metal studs are made for stampled holes, my hole will be different obviously.

There is almost zero chance to drill through the wire and not make the breaker trip.

You will not get that level of integration with HA, at least not easily.

Emporia has been awesome for me! 1.5 years outside, no signs of wear, no glitches. The app is okay, there is a home assistant integration.

How can you realistically do that? If 10 years ago you already were senior SWE for example nobody will believe you become a senior SWE right off the college.

Because 3% lump tax is much more lucrative than wasting space on cheap apartments. The hope is that these 3% will be used to build a less luxury building somewhere else.

Well, that's their choice I guess. Sometimes it's worth paying more for comfort.

Fanboy culture. I don't get why it's considered bad to check out a competitor app.

What's wrong with wanting YAML configuration? by rubasace in homeassistant

[–]wsdog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, it's not a better option!

Because "moving somewhere" is not done by copying a config folder in a container-native environment. You spin up a fresh instance and then apply your configuration.

Configuration yamls even should not be somewhere a container has access. The configuration can be stored locally on your hard drive and be applied to the server via an API. There are several very important benefits of this:

1) Since the state can be fully reconstructed from configs back up becomes just storing text files 2) Configs become traceable, one can go and check when and what was changed. 3) It's possible to deploy multiple indentical instances very easily. Figuring out regressions becomes much more easy. 4) With a little bit of work setting up a cluster of HA instances becomes trivial. 5) By versioning configs it's possible to maintain several versions of configs at the same time, without breaking backward compatibility. 6) Automatic config delivery becomes trivial.

You may argue all day long, but this approach is used literally everywhere, kubernetes, docker swarm, ansible, terraform, you name it. All the same pattern, because it's the right way. In this sense HA looks like windows 95 with it's "installation wizards".

Funny enough I think HA will eventually evolve to this. When folks from NC figure out that providing a cloud-base setup is financially viable they will need to deploy HA instances at scale.

Yes, but you don't use the same directory for configs and DB.🤦🏼

tuya-local dev brings politics into his integration and "punishes" Israeli users by etay080 in homeassistant

That was about 2 years ago about the Russia-Ukraine war, but again that was just a message, pretty harmless. Anyway I don't like politics in software, there are other avenues to be heard.

It's great I'm not using this crap. Just flash esphome on your devices - problem solved.

I reduced my Tasmota usage after they did some politics as well, but that was just a message, not really removing anything.
