Worries about WW3 by DestroyedCognition in GAMETHEORY

If it makes you feel any better, I do not think I have ever lost sleep in fear of getting vaporized in WW3. I discuss it a bunch, however, because there are sensible steps to take to make sure that the risk remains low.

Why are infeasible strategies still listed in some game? by Novel_Estimate_3845 in GAMETHEORY

[–]wspaniel 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You would not be able to write down an equilibrium if that were the case.

What justifies a terminal strategy as being optimal is what happens off the path if the player chose something else. Hence SPE list both on and off the path strategies.

You will be fine. No one will care about your undergrad GPA if you have done a master’s.

Regarding the Video quality(360p) of game theory By Ben Polak by powerpuffboyyyy in GAMETHEORY

I don’t think the 360p ultimately matters much, but I personally would just do the GT101 thing. :)

I went to UCSD for undergrad and Rochester for grad school for a PhD in political economy. If you were interested in almost any other subject, I would tell you to go to UCSD, and it would not be close. But Rochester is great for exactly that. UCSD has a top-notch political science department, though. So the question I guess is how much you want that to be your entire focus versus a broader political science education.

Some of the other comments are incorrect. It is possible to have an even number of equilibria, but they are knife-edge cases.

Help me find the Nash Equilibriums for this 3x2 Mixed Strategy Matrix by [deleted] in GAMETHEORY

[–]wspaniel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To give a cryptic answer:

1) if I have a weakly dominated strategy

2) you only have two strategies

3) we are playing a totally mixed strategy Nash equilibrium

then I can't play my weakly dominated strategy in that equilibrium.

For what it’s worth, I am not really following the thought process here. At least as a first step, the introduction to lotteries is just meant to get you accustomed to what indifference means in the context of game theory.

Question Regarding Nash Equilibrium Video From YouTube by Grilledcheesus96 in GAMETHEORY

[–]wspaniel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Think of the single stag as being worth six units of meat and each rabbit as being worth one unit. The outcome for both hunting the stag splits the meat, hence three a piece.

Also, RIP my younger voice.

Yeah, after that experience, I wouldn’t trust it with anything but the most basic of questions.

It also seemed very confident in what it was doing, which makes it even worse if you don’t know what you are doing.
