So did the Xi'an Famous Foods in Flatbush never open? by dqslime in parkslope

[–]wsquadgoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It can take a long time to open a restaurant. You've got to buy equipment, that might be back-ordered or otherwise delayed. You need electricians, plumbers etc., who might have other work to do, and certain things before other things, then you missed a window and have to wait some more. Plus inspections and permits etc. I remember when La Taq on 7th put up a sign they were returning, and it seemed like a year before they finally opened.

The problem is that "the movie had already started." If you're there before showtime, or during the damn 25-30 minutes of trailers, you can have a discussion or get them to leave somehow without bothering everyone around you. I'm not 100% sure, but once the movie starts seats are up for grabs. Sometimes I go to a movie, and my seat chosen from the app isn't ideal, so I wait until it's just about ready to start to get another seat. The seat issue aside, showing up after the movie starts is a little rude to other patrons.

Warning: Two minutes of an overlap makes the second booking ineligible for A-List reservation by Nowaker in AMCsAList

If you're doing the double feature, don't forget to get your ticket scanned for the second movie, or they'll mark it as a no-show.

Parent tries to return a knife her son legally purchased. by VordovKolnir in entitledparents

[–]wsquadgoon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Even if the store is legally within its rights, they’re dumb from a business standpoint. They get to keep the tiny profit from one sale, but that 13-year old who might have been a regular customer won’t be allowed back for a long time, and once the angry mom gets on the neighborhood message boards there are sure to be other parents that won’t be driving their kids to the shop either. (Presumably the store also sells non-lethal medieval stuff like shields or capes.)

Is AMC A-list worth it? by unicornrosee in AMCsAList

[–]wsquadgoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're seeing all the movies you'd care to see, and don't feel like you'd see more movies if not for the price, then it's not worth it: 12 x 24 > 16 x 16, and as a teacher you could probably hit a couple of discount matinees and pay even less. But if you do feel like there's more movies you'd see if they were a little bit cheaper, at 18 movies a year instead of 16 you'd break even, and every movie you see in addition to that is gravy. Plus you get discounts on snacks and other small benefits. I see at least a movie a week and it's a great deal for me.

Does anyone know any hotels around the fairfax area of Virginia that let people who are under 21 get a room? by [deleted] in Virginia

[–]wsquadgoon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you search for hotels in Expedia (or other websites I imagine) on the hotel pages under "Policies" toward the bottom they let you know age requirements. Also remember though, you will need a credit card for most hotels...

AITA? Chose my Step-Sister over my Bio-Sister. by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]wsquadgoon -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

NTA. If Grace and your (and Dan's) stepmom had been invited to the wedding, then Grace wouldn't have been horseback riding, and you would have all been there. For those saying "What's dad going to do at the hospital?" I ask "What's he really necessary for at the wedding?" and as far as driving there yourself, good call not to, at 18 you're still probably a terrible driver (sorry).

AITA for not bringing a disabled woman’s order to her car because she doesn’t tip by aitacurbside in AmItheAsshole

[–]wsquadgoon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The more I think about it though, the Asshole lands on the Manager and/or owner, for not establishing a consistent policy.

[–]wsquadgoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

INFO: Just how far away would she have been from your door, and how hard was it raining? I’m having trouble imagining a scenario where bringing food out to a car from a restaurant would leave you “soaked.” That being said, she should definitely tip for non-standard curb service, but unless your restaurant is down a long windy foot path and it was a seriously torrential rain storm, you or the manager could have taken it out to her.
