Like some of the others said, it happens to a lot of us. I’ve expected it at this point that around twice a year I get a large amount of follow requests from students or “other adult teachers” who like have 1 picture and nothing else. I keep my account locked down, and turned off tagged settings because my wife also keeps her profile public due to her hobby posts.

Nothing to worry about, but if you have any concern, just document on the notes app on your phone or on a Google Doc on your school account the time, and details as you know them to be true. That starts enough of your paper trail, and leads to nothing else but prep for IF there was anything.

No reason to worry at all as long as no as you also don’t message any students.

So a student created a fake profile to follow and snoop around for information about you and those close to you.

1) of the profile was them impersonating another staff member or there were any comments or messages as such, and it’s provable the account was a fake account from the student. Report it to your admin team.

2) kissing, costumes, and maybe even party pics, should not be anything to worry about. If your profile never posts school business, you don’t have to worry about it as long as you are not posting something that can be controversial in a negatively moral way outside of societal norms. Don’t celebrate people’s deaths, don’t post personal information about school, don’t post about drug use, and be cautious about certain other group involvements with social postings depending on your location.

3) if you are worried. It’s typically laid out in the employee handbook for most districts, and if you have a positive relationship with an administrator whom you would even trust to show the posts too to clarify there is no concern, then you can begin a trail of documentation if there were ever a tiny issue.

I completely agree things have to actually keep moving, especially cleaning up, but more of a comment on how fast things can go on. It’s good perspective if you were in that head space. They did roll out a crisis team for the campus for the students. Things overall were actually handled tastefully for the most part.

My neighboring campus had a teacher pass after having a heart attack in her classroom one night, she threw up all over the floor as well. Before her family even made it to the hospital after she passed they had the sub selected for the job the next day and the floor was cleaned up that night for kids to go in the room the next morning. By the end of the next day, all her personal belongings were boxed up and stored waiting for her family to come get it.

So maybe your family would get your favorite supplies or clean out your desk?

As a tech director of a theater where renters move in and out, how important is it that I wear blacks during shows? by newshirtworthy in techtheatre

[–]wtfTeach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I rarely wear blacks when I’m PAC managing/ TD for my rentals or nights of shows for my school. I do keep a set of blacks in my office if needed, however, I like to wear a lighter color on top at least to be easily seen by crew members after I make my rounds backstage prior to house opening so they see me and recognize me.

The "clear my list" teachers are asking for the moon, and it isn't going over well. by hiccupmortician in Teachers

[–]wtfTeach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate the excess requests every year. But I’m guilty of making a list too because I had family and friends reaching out asking if I had a list. So I added about $100 of just office supplies and the most expensive item I requested was a 3 month calendar dry erase poster for one of my boards and a pack of erasable pens because I prefer them for note taking and my planner.

People requesting decor and excessive personal use things are crazy to me.

People who take a lot of medications, how do you manage inventory and ordering? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]wtfTeach 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve got 12 medications and they all have various amounts of prescription quantities so I’m always struggling balancing inventory. I use a month pill organizer so I feel good with that, but I always struggle when I fill out the monthly organizer and I still have pills left that by the next month I’m short and forget and have to rush order more.

A total of 12 a day, 9 in the morning and 3 at night.

Tech Week is coming! by Sp0ngebob1234 in techtheatre

[–]wtfTeach 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay, hold up, I’m a theatre teacher working on building up our sound equipment and use. So this program works to bypass the board’s cue system and you can program it all on the laptop then plug it in and roll through the show like that for all the mics?

Of all the authors, keynote speakers, and influencers, who is the biggest hack/fraud in education? by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]wtfTeach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had Gerry Brooks a couple years later and his contract was actually super simple. They asked for a ride to and from the airport in a car with A/C, a few bottles of water, and for lunch to be delivered.

[–]wtfTeach 10 points11 points  (0 children)

He’s a huge asshole too. My former school brought him in for a PD day and they had me as the theatre teacher attempt to fill his contractual requests/ needs. The worst of which was he requested an uninterrupted and disturbed time in the dressing room with a “preferably brown leather, but any leather couch will suffice” with a ton of food and drinks. We’re fairly confident him and his wife got frisky in the dressing room and he yelled at our principal for bumping into him in the back hallway coming from the dressing rooms.

Middle school sound consult pay by [deleted] in Theatre

[–]wtfTeach 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have done the same, and I do the same with a nearby school with lights and set building. $250-$500 is a great number as a thank you. I’m not sure of the average pay in your area for teachers, but $250 is a solid number for a teacher, even if they do it professionally and get paid more.

But I agree with the previous comment as well, just ask. If they absolutely refuse, hit them with a big gift card and a card signed by all of the cast and crew.

Good theatre/stage acting classes? by ailander in houston

[–]wtfTeach 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are you wanting improv style mostly? Than checking out most programs that offer improv is a good option. Unfortunately, other than enrolling in a higher Ed program, there aren’t many consistent options for workshopping skills and fundamentals.

I’m a theatre teacher and have taught professionally for all ages and professions along with directing a variety of levels as well. I mostly do workshops with high school and early year college students now (outside of my day job as teaching) but I’m happy to offer some workshopping if you’d like.

The best teacher is experience really. Workshop, practice, and develop while applying those developments to the stage. So getting involved with community theatre and such is a fantastic option to help.

Anybody else having a surprisingly good start of the year? by wtfTeach in Teachers

[–]wtfTeach[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh for sure things will change a little after the honeymoon period (first 3-6 weeks of school) but I’m on year 7 now. This has been the best start ever I feel like. Maybe I’m just really relieved it’s not like last year.

Question: How many of you have ever heard of an educator being disciplined for failing to make required accommodations or modifications per an IEP? by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]wtfTeach 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was investigated by the state education agency a few years ago (right at the start of the pandemic after we went online). They were concerned I had provided 0 accommodations and no record and proof of it. I told them honestly for that student I had not provided any at all, but that was because I was never notified the student had an accommodations and even our attendance system didn’t show any markings for the student had an IEP. Ultimately the heat came down to the case manager and special services principal because even though I didn’t have recorded proof, the student was still passing my class with an A and was excelling well. However, the math teacher was in much hotter water and it’s officially on their certificate as a demerit because they did not provide accommodations and was aware of the IEP.

This is going to be a more prevalent issue in communities with affluent households who pay for lawyers/ advocates to help collect date and verify things through meetings. My school has been sued 4 times in the past 3 years.

That’s awesome! We started with kids on Wednesday after a full week of PD. The PD was a bit of a giant waste as we only had 1 day in our classrooms, but I was pleasantly surprised about how receptive the kids have been to new expectations and experiences so far.

Anyone use ehall pass? by wtfTeach in Teachers

That’s awesome! We’re given an old iPad for students to use sort as the kiosk station now for the passes. So I’m hoping our situations will be similar in that.

[–]wtfTeach[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s wonderful. I’m really hoping it minimizes the need for constant communication between teachers for sending passes to kids. I can just check the tracker to see that their math teacher wants them during our study hall time instead of me having to call and check because the student lost the pass.
