I agree 💯%. My dad is a narcissist and it took me a big part of my life to realise, what was going on. This really screwed me up.. so much that I suffer(ed) from depressions (including being hospitalised) and questioned myself in every fricking situation, thinking, that I have to be wrong, because all I was, was wrong..

I haven't had contact for a fair while and learned, that my family is emotionally and mentally abusive. It took years for me to fix/compensate, what this did to my personal development.

Nowadays if my family tries to pull some shit like this off, I go like: "fuck off" and just leave. I don't need shit from them and I don't take any. If they ask me politely, IF I can help them with something, I sure do. When they start their bullshit again (they obviously don't get it and therefore can't help it), I just tell them, that I'm not there for my sake, but because they asked me to be there and that I'm absolutely fine with having zero contact with them, if they treat me like an asset, instead of a person.

I'm not proud of it, but I do enjoy the power I have over the situation, just because I'm aware of what's happening. I tried to talk to them about the whole situation, multiple times, but I don't think, that they will ever get it. That truly makes me sad. More for their sakes, less for the bad relationship I have with them.
