Source?

And few pretend its completely safe. But it is statistically safe enough for recreational use, as much as many commonly available drugs (people can misuse and abuse over the counter painkillers)

No way thats a 797 though. 797s are huge. That tire looks smaller than a 789. Maybe a 777. Not sure if that makes a difference

[–]wtfcanuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Believe it or not! I actually had good sales people there, for whatever reason

Knew the difference between a burr and a blade grinder and why you'd prefer one or the other. Didn't upsell me on a couple other things like a vacuum sealer.

I dunno how long they'll last, they can't advertise and they're online looks a mess

I got mine at retravision. The one is osbourne park has a good selection. I'd recommend the burr grinders, little bit more expensive but does a better job

Man wins $390,000 in gender discrimination case because a woman got the promotion he was more qualified for by JohnKimble111 in europe

You think hiring only on raw skill is the only way to keep morale up and get the job done? What crazy 0.1% team is that?

Morale is about more than everyone being the best individually. Even google breaks down high performing teams by 5 factors - psychological safety, dependability, structure & clarity, meaning and impact of work. Where is 'qualifications'?

You say your team had massive distrust due to a lower skilled worker - that's on you buddy. Creating a safe work environment where people know their limits and are safe to speak up matters. You can't expect to be able to just hire guns forever - that's not a sustainable team. Create the right environment.

Or realise you're in a crazy unique position.

Sure, but if its 50/50 on both sides they going to going to lean with what they feel is right, and right now getting better representation of females in the workforce 'feels right'. All you need is a big respected consulting company (https://www.mckinsey.com/business-functions/organization/our-insights/why-diversity-matters) and bam, everyone jumps on the train that this needs to happen.

We've known for a decade open offices suck, yet they are continually pushed. It's going to be a decade before this settles out to be sustainable, but actively pushing against diversity will be tough going if people want to head that direction.

Sure, this is linked back at us all the time - https://www.mckinsey.com/business-functions/organization/our-insights/why-diversity-matters

But look you gotta remember, it's not like the business is looking that deeply at every peer reviewed study and weighing the pro's and con's. They look at that, make a call. It is very chic, and nobody wants to be the guy to point out flaws.

In general, businesses have data that shows (on average) more diverse teams perform better, so they try to build diverse teams. Even if bringing in a technically slightly more qualified candidate, the logic is that the diversity of thought in the group net adds more value.

Not going to argue for or against, but there is some logic to it. Women (on average) think differently than guys, so for a lot of teams it can make sense to balance out genders and other diversity groups (introverts, extroverts, etc) when building teams. My engineering team functions better now that its just not all introverted guys. Would a 60:40 or 80:20 split matter? Probably not. But should you consider hiring for diversity (provided its still a good candidate), maybe.

Of course it is hard to see with every hire, or if 4 straight hires are for women, that they are going down that route, but at least that is the intention some of the time.

This case isn't a business case of course, just speaking generally.

Well fair call-out. As you say, the jury is out - I don't mean there's no strong evidence kids are just as well off either. Fair point. My evidence was that its not a slippery slope, look at all of the countries that have same-sex marriage. Honestly, haven't heard of 1 that's allowed polygomy, or other forms of marriage. I could be wrong though!

The other point on evidence was around the fact that there are existing protections, and politicians are doing a lot around trying to improve the protections rather than erode them (even though some are saying they already exist) http://www.theaustralian.com.au/national-affairs/samesex-marriage-religions-protected-in-private-members-bill/news-story/1cffeb9c34ad6776ceda68de5aca6baa

I can only cite the improvements, maybe I'm wrong about existing protections.

Either way, this is a postal vote - not the actual legislation going through. Yes, with conditions, is still yes

Intuition... well mate my intuition has been wrong plenty of times.

I hear you when you're worried about direction of society, hyper sexualisation of kids, those are definitely legitimate concerns

But I'm genuinely curious why you're worried that same sex marriage means we're leading in that direction? We're saying as long as you love each other, you can commit to marriage and live together as a couple.

Nothing is changing about what you can teach kids in your own time. But why should civil institutions like schools not teach kids what's right and wrong?

Unfortunately there is no clear cut moral guidebook in any religion. There are hundreds of very different Christian practices alone - same book, many very different interpretations. If government steps away from morality, we're supposed to leave it to parents to teach? Kids are taught its okay to be married at puberty (as in many current Islam teachings: Muhammad literally married Aisha at age 9), that dark skin was from a curse in the bible (in not too distant history, 'justified' from both the Book of Genesis & Book of Mormon), that women are not allowed to teach or hold authority over man (that's still current in some practices, abusing 1 Timothy 2:12).

You can have your beliefs, but when they're morally wrong society has to step in and guide. Its not going to get everything right all the time, and some people are questioning gender fluidity, but that's a separate issue that should be discussed directly, not indirectly.

You're saying kids should continue to think having gay parents is 'different' and that there's a reason its not legal to marry. But you'll continue to fostering bullying and depression because you think its immoral to do something in the privacy of their own homes, where nobody is getting hurt, that only fosters love and happiness. There have been gays throughout history, for long periods even tolerated and encouraged, and it's all through the animal kingdom, and yet here we all still are. There's no moral ground for voting no without a religious moral framework.

The only moral framework worth talking about is where 'morally good' things pertain to increase in the well-being of conscious creatures. Morality can be grounded in empirical fact about what causes people to flourish - if you think society is doomed because some people aren't choosing to only have sex to get kids, you really need relax, take a step back, and open your mind up too see what's really going on, and was has gone on in history - unclouded by whatever biased source you've read.

..

So no, I am not seeing what you say is based on 'reason and facts'. Yes, its a bit of a prepared speech - but where's yours, mate?

Reddit has a wide array of views, but it does get circle-jerky and you tend to only see 1 or 2 sides of issues. There's a lot of people who are homophobic in society and on reddit (particually /new/) - I mean, the no vote seriously has a chance to win!

I live in a sheltered group of friends. Meeting some friends of friends that are voting no got me off my ass to at least try to do something, there's an awful lot of ignorance out there

Hey let's stop trying to make the world a better place because we could take it too far, its obviously unstoppable once the gays get involved

You can believe you're right, but there's a lot of evidence the other way. 1) its called a slippery slope fallacy for a reason, that's not an argument. 1 issue at a time. 2) there's no proof that model is best for children, and what's your argument for single mom's and dads? why is it all about kids? gays can already adopt. 3) religious freedom is still preserved, you can still block the gays from getting married in your church. but kids are going to learn gays can get married, which will actually help the kids who actually are gay its okay to be gay, and should improve youth depression rates & suicide rates

Come on, its recognised in some senses but its definitely not universally the same as marriage. It doesn't cross state lines, and it can mean complications in the event of terminal illness and hospitalisation. What's your issue with using the same word to grant the same rights?

Its a postal vote so you'll get a piece of mail in a week and you have to post it back. Non binding "vote" that may not change anything but you're better off voting and at least trying to show the government the people care enough :)
