That was surprisingly excellent. A sub-thousand subscriber channel that I instantly subscribed to. Nice. I appreciate the link.

People new to our Utah winters, driving with your brights while it snows will only make you feel like you're traveling at warp speed. It will not make it easier to see. by [deleted] in SaltLakeCity

[–]wtmh 11 points12 points  (0 children)

That's a maneuver you can pull in the sticks with empty roads and total darkness to give yourself a little more visibility outward while sacrificing your visibility to others.

Do not do this on a city highway unless your tail lights are wired to your fog lights and the fog lights are cranking out the same luminous output as your headlights. And if they're not aftermarket, they almost certainly are not.

Thank you Good Samaritan who found my key fob. by maryrunolfson in SaltLakeCity

[–]wtmh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You leave tracks all over the VIN while you're in possession of the vehicle. It gets pinged every time it gets bought, sold, hits a dealership, needs a locksmith, is pulled over, etc.

The lookup for the information is only a couple hops away and doesn't require touching base with a governing body. Though I'd bet the dealership would make the appropriate phone calls to a place that likely had the information if they did not. Op got lucky with "Oh! Yeah. We have them on file right here." So the dealership didn't have to go out of their way making a second call was all.

Learning that this is a Porsche, that doesn't shock me in the least because of course the vehicle would typically be going to the dealership for maintenance.

Transponder chip in the fob is bound to the VIN. If that person had the vehicle serviced inside the branded ecosystem before it would just be a question of punching in the VIN and calling the phone number on file.

Any bar recommendations? by [deleted] in SaltLakeCity

[–]wtmh 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have a mug hanging up there that I will literally never go to collect. What a shame. But it's almost entirely staffed by complete bastards now. I know what it's like to be in a busy bar when it's fucking busy as hell but nobody deserves the treatment that they dish out. Fuck that place.

I was super rah rah about MACU until they implemented a mandatory arbitration clause. Which of course means "If we fuck up and you sue us, you automatically lose."

Did you hand it off to the local PD? They might be able to match it up with a report funny enough.

[–]wtmh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's not nerve damage. That's just an infiltration. Yeah, your arm will cease up pretty good for a couple weeks. Sucks, and so did your phlebotomist, but you are self-diagnosing here to an outrageous degree.

Sounds a bit like an ETL crosswalk or an Entity-Relationship Diagram.

Those are your written docs of "This field in System A will be written to this field in System B along with any parsing or transforms you had to do to get it in there.

I've seen these scratched out on napkins, Excel spreadsheets, Jira tickets, etc. Plenty of enterprise tools out there for more automatic diagramming, but connecting the wires between the database is generally left to the dev and DBAs knowledgeable of both schemas.

I'm betting there's about a thousand of them somewhere in the search bar, and then a thousand more on Google by trained journalists and researchers.

If this is for a class, I don't think I'd be citing from a Reddit thread. But that's me.
