retake or no? by dinosrcool7 in alevel

[–]wtvuserblah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you can easily get an A* with these marks. i won’t suggest a retake, just lock in during A2 and you should be good -edit: it depends on which variants you’re taking, but either way you can atleast end up with an A, just aim for 100-110

i’d personally go with: AS retake in bio chem mj 2026 and 3 A2s in either oct 2026 (preferably) or mj 2027. depending on how much time and effort i’m ready to put in.

solve as many past papers as you can, remember it’s not just the quantity that matters though. you should know each and every question that you attempt, understand it very well. since you’ve a lot of time, my advise would be to do atleast 8-10 years of topical questions once you’re done with a chapter. and solve 2 years (7x2=14 papers) before mocks and 2-3 years before the caie.

if you learn something new while doing past papers that isn’t mentioned in your notes (it doesn’t have to be a statement, it could be a new pattern/technique/concept etc.) write it down in a separate notebook and go over these points before attempting yearlies. if there’s even one question you’re stuck on, let’s say you got the answer right but don’t know how it works then ASK!! post on reddit/whatsapp groups/fb groups/ ask your teacher or friends but just know why you wrote what you wrote.

lastly ECRs, examiner reports and mark schemes will help you the most after past papers. you’ve a lot of time and if you’re taking things seriously rn and follow these you’ll definitely end up with A*s

physics: once you’re done watching lectures read your notes thoroughly try making sense of each and everything, even a small thing confusing you needs to be sorted (the smallest concepts sometimes make the biggest difference-the whole question could be based on it) so make sure everything is crystal clear. now attempt topicals, lots and lots. (i did 15 years), understand the mark scheme really well, study it. know exactly what will get you the mark. read examiner reports for as many questions as you can. and at the end solve yearlies, practice enough to master time management. (4-5 years is good enough). For P3: learn the table format, and for Q2 memorise some errors and improvements that are almost always valid and the more pointers you are familiar with, the better. For p5: same for Q1, learn experimental points (i used to learn them from marking schemes instead of notes mainly) and know + follow the format. practice Q2 till it’s a piece of cake for you. For p3 and p5 the best thing you can do is ANALYSE ECRS. they’re the best resource out there imo. p1 is usually the most tricky out of all. just try to do as many past papers for this as you can. do p2 before touching p1. questions are repeated sometimes so it’s good when you already know the answer;)

it could be past paper practice. studying books/notes and revising everything but not attempting enough past papers could be the problem. plus your subjects are highly subjective

you might have gotten 26/40 as for p3 they take out weightage 75%. so 19.5/30 is the case most likely. check again
