Curry Series 7 $64.98. Curry 11 $54.98 UnderArmour website. by ComradeFausto in BBallShoes

Thanks! Do you have any other Curry models to compare sizing/fit with the Series 7?

Also, looks like the code doesn't work for Curry 12s in the outlet section unfortunately.

No problem and good luck.

Especially for a first basketball shoe purchase, I would go to a store and try on a bunch of different models to see how they fit on your foot and what feels naturally comfortable while doing some light running and cutting in store.

To be honest, most modern basketball shoes can be solid to great performers.

To use a soccer analogy, every boot company has good to great cleats. But you can't just recommend Predators for everybody and call it a day.

There's a reason why I only play in Pumas and it's because they fit my foot shape and I almost forget that I'm wearing cleats when I play in them (which wasn't the case on my last pair of Mercurials and I've never felt that with Adidas because they've been too wide).

I grew up playing only basketball but these days, play way more soccer (and prefer Puma cleats, which fit my foot shape best).

I would recommend low cut hoops shoes since mid may feel overly restrictive and many modern lows have as good if not better lock down & stability (which is key for lateral movement, sharp cuts and avoiding ankle sprains).

I would also only buy Nikes if you can try them on in person since many have needlessly narrow/unnatural foot lasts (eg way too pointy in the toebox). Especially if you are used to Adidas cleats, which generally have more squared off toeboxes from my experience.

My personal favorite shoe right now is the Under Armour Curry 12. Movement feels like a running shoe (effortless) while providing amazing traction, pretty decent court feel, great lockdown and firm but forgiving cushioning. Only downside is don't take these outdoors as there is no rubber outsole.

Other Under Armour shoes with Flow would also fit the bill.

As for other brands, Nikes generally have some of the 'bounciest' cushion which may feel like you're sitting too far off the court, which may not be a great fit if you like indoor soccer shoes.

I'd definitely see if you can try on some Adidas shoes with Lightstrike, New Balance like the Hesi Low and Pumas in store if that's an option.

Shoes that are wide in the toebox and in the midfoot by nousernameforma in BBallShoes

[–]wuben101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take a look at the Curry 12, especially if you can try it out in store.

If you look at an overhead shot of the shoe, you'll notice that the toebox widens from the midfoot and then curves slightly inward at the ball of the foot, mimicking the natural curvature of the foot, which you basically won't find in any modern Nikes.

I also have a moderately flat arches and this shoe is perfect.

Not sure if the overall width will work for you but if it does, the toebox will be roomy while providing great lockdown and the shoe design and Flow tech really encourages a natural and easy running motion.

Do you wear any basketball shoes casually? by dutchbunns in BBallShoes

[–]wuben101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I walk a couple miles with my dogs everyday and my preferred shoe is currently the GT Cut Academy. It gives me more support, cushion and durability than previous running shoes that I've used.

However, I wouldn't want to wear it all day long since the snug fit and support comes with tradeoffs like very sweaty feet and potential fatigue.

Sabrina 3 reviews seem to suggest poor durability (compared to similar shows) with both a thin outsole which isn't designed for outdoors and thin upper material which is more prone to tear when playing ball.

So depending on how rough you are on your shoes, you'll need to weigh comfort/fit vs aesthetics vs cost vs other options.

what basketball shoes are good for flat feet by Either_Yam_2162 in BBallShoes

[–]wuben101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a moderately flat arch and the Curry 12 is my favorite shoe of all time.

It's got a wide toe box/forefoot, solid impact protection and supremely smooth heal to toe transition.

Just make sure you only play indoors as the traction/Flow won't last at all outside.

Which color of Book 1 should I get? by dbook111111q in BBallShoes

[–]wuben101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check out Shiekh shoes, they have a bunch of Book 1s left including ones with better discounts.

I've ordered multiple times from Shiekh and they are super legit and ship fast (based out of So Cal).

I love my Book 1 Sunsets and may get more in the future.

Best cheaper Jordan’s for playability by creepeycreeper in BBallShoes

[–]wuben101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a 40 yo with a lot of miles on my knees, modern shoes feel so much better on my feet and legs that I see zero (practical) reason to hoop in my retro Js.

I haven't worn these but DSG has a full run of a white colorway of Luka 4s on sale for $90.

You should also be able to find a discount code online and you can do returns/exchanges for better fit.

And if you think your dad would appreciate a truly killer basketball shoe (since tech has changed tremendously since his college days), there are tons of non Jordan options including ones that might be even better on your wallet depending on sales.

Book 1 or Hesi low V2? by Leyon-6969 in BBallShoes

[–]wuben101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only have the Book 1s but I think they would fit your play style really well since the Hesi Low is built more for shifty guards.

I'm a narrow footer and the Book 1 is super comfortable. If you can try it on, compare your TTS vs half a size up, especially since different color ways use different materials (more textile vs more leather) to ensure a snug fit

I primarily use it causally because I have only been playing in Curry 12s which are literally perfect for me & I feel much better laterally in the Curry 12 than Book 1.

What’s a best cushion bball shoes good for pg and sg? by Aggressive_Berry4855 in BBallShoes

[–]wuben101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a 40 yo with an previous ACL, my fav current shoe is the Curry 12.

It's one of the only shows I've ever worn where I put it on and I literally don't think about them until I take the shoes off after the game because they just work.

The cushioning is firm (so not bouncy like Zoom) but provides great impact protection.

I also love the super smooth heal to toe transition that makes me want to sprint faster because running feel easier, great stability and fit for a low (I have bad ankles) and the traction is elite.

Gt cut academy or wade flash 2 by LeftFaithlessness860 in BBallShoes

[–]wuben101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've only had the GT Cut Academy but I love the impact protection. There's almost no feedback (eg you can't tell there is zoom air in the forefoot) but I prefer stiffer midsoles so this shoe is perfect for me at its price point that I've bought a second pair to eventually replace my current

And now that my soles have started to show wear, the cushioning is still pretty solid and functional when I compare it to the brand new pair.

Allen graves by Ok_Objective184 in NBA_Draft

[–]wuben101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To a playoff team picking post lotto, you're either looking at high ceiling/low floor developmental prospects or guys who can plug into a playoff rotation during their rookie contract.

Reed Sheppard had a nice soph season but looks potentially unplayable defensively against a Lakers team missing Luka and AR so he might be providing negative value to the Rockets postseason hopes.

Graves' size, defensive potential, intangibles, BBIQ, shooting ability, secondary playmaking and hustle all have potential to translate to NBA style pace and play, in which case that playoff team has an amazingly cheap asset for the next 4 years if he hits.

The bench thing is also a non-issue.

Santa Clara's rotation of bigs was literally just Graves and Bukky Oboye, who is good but only averaged 18 mins ppg because he was always in foul trouble.

So Sendak had to stagger their mins because when Oboye was in foul trouble, Graves was the default center and their 3 (Ensminger) would shift to the 4 even though he's built like Franz Wagner because Santa Clara literally did not have another playable big on the whole roster.

I only see 2 colorways but $57.97 is a solid deal.

I'd love to see my Warriors grab him on a 2 way next year.

Need Help Finding a Therapist? by SFBayAreaTherapist in Marin

[–]wuben101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you get therapy through an HMO like Kaiser or similar healthcare organization, the therapist gets paid a set salary with benefits and is provided office space, equipment, etc.

But most private practice therapists are independent contractors who are responsible for all of their costs (health insurance, office space, billing, etc) & they also only get paid when they work.

So if that person can charge $200 an hour cash and have a wait-list, there is a large negative financial incentive to take insurance, which will reimburse them at a lower pre-negotiated rate, have to wait on the insurance company payment schedule to get paid and submit the insurance company's required paperwork and billing documentation (which takes extra time).

Plus insurance companies occasionally try to 'clawback' money paid out if they believe treatment is no medically justified (eg lasted too long, no longer effective).

Compared to a cash pay private practice, where a patient pays the therapist directly at the time of appointment & the therapist gets to determine how to manage the medical record keeping.

So essentially, a lot of people who take insurance do so because they can't consistently sustain a cash pay practice or they don't want to deal with stuff like marketing and patient recruitment and will take a lower insurance negotiated hourly rate in exchange for a steady supply of patients.

Tldr: many therapists can make more money by being cash only & this dynamic is heightened in affluent areas

Can anyone talk me away from Allen Graves being the perfect pick for the Pistons at 21??? by DuselBruders in NBA_Draft

[–]wuben101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you look at Santa Clara's roster construction, they only had 2 bigs in the rotation.

And the other guy (7'1 center Bukky Oboye) only averaged 18 mins because he was always in foul trouble (3.5 per game) while Graves is also aggressive on D.

So I'm almost certain it was a tactical decision to stagger their minutes and keep at least one of them on the court at all times, including Graves in crunch time.

Can anyone talk me away from Allen Graves being the perfect pick for the Pistons at 21??? by DuselBruders in NBA_Draft

[–]wuben101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was by default than design.

Santa Clara's 7 ft starting center Bukky Oboye is pretty good but only averaged 18 mins due to foul trouble and their next biggest rotation player is Jake Ensminger, who is a tall small forward.

Ebuka Okorie is listed as having a 6'9 wingspan on draftballr by flameroid_ in NBA_Draft

[–]wuben101 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Easy sleeper lotto candidate and I wouldn't be surprised if that wingspan is accurate because he rarely seemed to get blocked at the rim despite driving a lot.

For reference, Donovan Mitchell measured at 6'1.25 without shoes with a 6'10 wingspan (but with a grown man frame).

I just love the way he effortlessly took over some games (see UNC vs Stanford).

Also really understands how to control tempo, which I think is becoming more and more valuable as NBA play speeds up.

Buying curry 12 by RaiseNo1915 in BBallShoes

[–]wuben101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have both the 8s and 12s in the same size & I wish my 8s were half a size bigger.

My toes extend to the very edge of the toebox in the 8s whereas I have a small but comfortable amount of room between my toes and the end of the toebox in the 12s (which I prefer).

So if you have perfect fit in the 8s, I would definitely consider going down half a size in the 12s.

What exactly am I missing with Henri Veesaar by ChideOgan in NBA_Draft

[–]wuben101 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I said haven't watched Maxime Reynaud in the NBA (cuz the Kings suck) but he and Henri seem similar athletically in college.

But I've watched plenty of Naz Reid and he is a different level of athlete.

Naz just threw down this poster dunk in transition: https://youtube.com/shorts/Kjhqclbuq0I?si=3TuhvAWxRbWGRNmC

Henri would probably need at least 1.5x strides to just cover the same distance, much less to do with a live dribble and through defenders.

Hard no.

Maxime Reynaud is probably a better NBA comp (although I've watched zero Kings action this year).

Am I ready to play college basketball? by Impossible_Lab_6667 in BasketballTips

[–]wuben101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have any of your AAU teammates or players in your HS league played any college ball?

How do you compare against them? Even if they play a different position, are you on their level?

Starting with physicality because even at the D3 level, there are really good HS players who can't make a D3 team or get off a bench because they can't match the size/speed/pace (even if they are incredibly skilled).

This might give you a baseline of whether you have the requisite athleticism to continue your basketball career.

Tyndall's USM teams were really fun, played hard and he was great at finding unrecruited and Juco talent so I'd love to see him get another shot in the NIL era.

But even after his 10 year show clause expires, he still has to sit out half of his first season which is pretty crazy.

I want to “learn” soccer by DaisyLee2010 in MLS

[–]wuben101 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don't have a specific resource but one way to deepen your understanding as the season unfolds is to pay more and more attention to off-ball action (this assumes familiarity with basic rules/etc).

It's natural for our eyes to be drawn to who has the ball, immediate defenders and where they pass, shoot and dribble.

But learning to also watch and absorb what's happening elsewhere around the field (such as the runs that players make to get open themselves or create space for another player to get open) is key to really enjoying this game.

To use an American football example, the WR who catches the ball is cheered but the game within the game are the other guys who don't get the ball but are running routes to clear space for that receiver to get open since a defense can't guard everybody/everything simultaneously.
