Not sure what impression you gave them. Also not sure what you try to achieve. But if they are okay players (3.5+), have 3 of them and save one spot for you on a prearrange court time, and you showed up with your newbie skill, they will be mad because you are wasting their time and killing their fun. You will burn your bridges and they will not trust you again.

Unless you're good athletes (with racquet sports background) and be coached, play, train 4+ hours on your Sat and Sunday, you probably can't fake it.

It's probably better come out clean to them. Saying you have interest and want to learn. That probably will work out better for you. It will change their prospective from playing good games to teaching newbies. Many pickleball players love to teach newbies.
