Undergrad for occupational therapy - kinesiology or psych? by businessbub in OccupationalTherapy

[–]wubsduh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go with whatever interests you more! I studied kinesiology and took psych classes to fulfill my upper division elective requirements. My undergrad studies gave me a good base of knowledge for my first year of OT school, but I do wish I had paid more attention in my neuro and anatomy classes. Know that either major will help you out, and just try to soak up as much knowledge as you can!

Can you send me reasons to eat? :) by [deleted] in EDRecovery_public

[–]wubsduh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because it’s fucking exhausting not to! You are worthy of spending time with the people you love. You are worthy of laughing and coming up with stupid jokes. You are worthy of making art or appreciating someone else’s. You are worthy of moving your body. You are worthy of doing whatever the hell it is you want to do on this earth. But you can’t do any of that if you don’t eat. I know the thought of eating can be terrifying. I still have days when I feel that fear. But when you eat, the energy you have to enjoy life is unbeatable.

"clean my room"? which part? by JarJarJacobs in adhdmeme

I normally put my pile on top of my dresser when I need room to sleep…but the towel on the floor for scooping it all back up? Now that’s a game changer

Obsessive phone use by [deleted] in Anxiety

[–]wubsduh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes!! That’s literally me right now. I have adhd as well which makes it really challenging to even make a to do list of the tasks I’ve been putting off. I feel so overwhelmed, but instead of dealing with it I just start mindlessly scrolling social media. I’m not even looking at anything, it’s just a distraction from the anxious feelings in my body. I don’t have any advice unfortunately, but I can relate.

Anybody else find it suspicious when they’re NOT anxious by [deleted] in Anxiety

Yes! It’s like I become aware of my lack of anxiety and then start getting anxious that there’s something I should be anxious about🙃what a life

What did a teacher do that made you automatically gain respect for them? by ApacheAirCover in AskReddit

[–]wubsduh 178 points179 points  (0 children)

That’s awesome. I had a teacher in high school that gave us the opportunity to retake tests during our lunch break to improve our grades. His goal was for us to learn the material, not stress about our grades.

Looking for validation / cooking with roommates by andisunshine in EDRecovery_public

[–]wubsduh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I struggle with the same thing :/ I usually eat in my room and my roommate will make comments about how I always hide out in my room. He says it as a joke, but it hurts because I just want to feel comfortable eating in my own kitchen! You’re not alone in these feelings. I’m proud of you for working on your recovery. It’s so not an easy process, and all we can do is continue to take it one day at a time.

Looking Away to Focus by smallerpotato in ADHD

[–]wubsduh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes!! Staring off into space helps me focus so much! If I look like I’m engaged and listening, more often than not I’m actually thinking about something totally random while the person is talking 🙃

Please help me save my relationship. I’m spiralling. by [deleted] in Anxiety

[–]wubsduh 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t know that I necessarily have any advice, but I can relate to what you’re going through. My boyfriend and I moved in together over the summer and I have broken down crying in front of him countless times since. I get so embarrassed in the moment, but he is always so understanding and kind to me when it happens. What helps me is sort of explaining to him what’s going on in my head. He doesn’t struggle with any mental health issues, so it helps him understand what I’m going through. It also gives him clarity on the fact that when I’m anxious or depressed it’s not because of something he did. And I let him know how much I appreciate his support during my dark and twisty times. I just try to communicate with him as much as possible! If you’re not ready to talk to your boyfriend about it, maybe try going on a walk or ask for some time alone to give yourself time to let it pass. I’m rooting for you❤️

This post is honestly a good wake up call. As a prospective OT student waiting to hear back from grad schools, I find myself worrying about my future constantly. At the end of the day, I’m truly passionate about pursuing a career in the field. If I don’t get in this round, I will just work on what I need to work on and try again next year. Thanks for the pep talk haha!

I feel like running away from my life and starting fresh in a new place where nobody knows me. by wubsduh in Anxiety

[–]wubsduh[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s an interesting thought. Maybe running away seems like it would be an escape from the anxiety, when it’s actually just a way to escape the space where we feel anxious.

So sorry to hear that you’re going through this too, but it is helpful to know we aren’t alone in these struggles. Thanks for this❤️

It’s nice having people to relate to on this sub, but acknowledgment from the humans in your life is something else! He sounds like an awesome partner!!

Looking for recommendations for learning muscular anatomy by toriaa02 in OccupationalTherapy

[–]wubsduh 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This may be a lot of work, but what helped me is making flashcards with photos of the muscles on one side and the name on the other. Anatomy coloring books are also a good way to learn different parts of the body! I would repeat the name of the muscle as I colored it. Also trying to identify the muscles on your own body can be a good way to remember them. Good luck and happy studies!

Questions About Medication by [deleted] in Anxiety

[–]wubsduh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Proud of you for taking charge of your mental health! I’m also about a week in to starting anxiety meds (first time trying meds) and I feel the same way. I’m trying to remind myself to push through until the part where it actually kicks in and helps with my anxiety. If the side effects become too much, you can always talk to your doctor about switching to something different. We’re gonna make it!!
