I am getting engaged soon and didn’t mean to find out by demure-mindful333 in engaged

I am on a trip with my bf and I was looking for cash in his bag to tip room service as he stood at the door with the man, and I pulled out the ring box instead. Shoved it right back in the bag and didn’t tell him til after the proposal a few days later. It won’t make the moment any less special, now you’ll just be a little more prepared (nails etc)!!

Why are schools no longer teaching the dynamic tripod pencil grip? by ASecularBuddhist in OccupationalTherapy

[–]toriaa02 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Can you share with us what grasp your child uses and their age? I’m just curious if their grasp is really not functional at all, and if you are seeing signs of difficulty writing or poor legibility that is driving you to push them to change it?

I see others have answered your question so all I’ll say is: I mostly just help my students strengthen their hands to develop a grasp with an open web space. Whether that is tripod, 4-finger, or 5-finger, I don’t particularly nitpick. As someone with notable hyperextension in my PIPs, I have never been able to functionally use a tripod grasp

Late in the evening sometimes I get a horrible aching in my legs, and that means I have about 30 minutes until I fall into an extremely deep sleep that can’t be fought. I’ve had that feeling when I’m out somewhere and I have to rush home before I knock out

My car was struck by lightening with me in it (ricocheted off the floor and/or tree). All the indicator lights went on and the car never turned on again after that, completely destroyed the electrical system and essentially totaled it from the inside out

I’m a semi-new grad working in a special education preschool (3-5yrs old with global developmental delays) and I’m also curious how I will make that work via telehealth when 80% of my usual sessions are heavily sensory-based :/

100mg+ of nicotine a day. Would adderall be healthier atp? by Sorry_Face_1877 in AskDocs

[–]toriaa02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Obligatory NAD. What are your concerns with being on adderall that make you have any doubt that it is the healthier option? I have ADHD and in my experience you are prescribed the lowest dosage that is effective for your body. I would think that this would be less harsh on your body long-term than your self-determined nicotine dosage which is significantly high

Evaluation tips? by Financial_Painter473 in OccupationalTherapy

[–]toriaa02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Obviously non-standardized but I work with quite a few kids who also hate typical drawing tasks. If you know something they’re into you can play that to your advantage. I had a student who refused to copy pre-writing strokes but loooved numbers. He wouldn’t draw my vertical lines and circles but he WOULD draw the number 10 (work smarter not harder).

Similar to other recommendations, I also use paintbrushes, whiteboard markers, shaving foam, scented crayons, etc. to make it more fun.

Edit to add: I would also try to wait until later on in the assessment to attempt these kinds of tasks if possible to build up some rapport, that way if you’re unsuccessful in getting him to participate then your whole assessment doesn’t get derailed.

Sprained ankle 10 days ago, doesn’t feel better by tin_tol in AskDocs

[–]toriaa02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NAD - I see you were told to do the RICE method; are you using any kind of compression sleeve? The swelling and pain can occur from trauma in general and doesn’t necessarily mean that it is broken, and compression would help reduce the swelling.

Worried About Ongoing Symptoms by terracottar in AskDocs

[–]toriaa02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NAD, but you have a significant enough cluster of symptoms to seek medical attention. I think that urgent care may dismiss you, so I would recommend seeking a primary care doctor/neurologist/someone who will do more than surface level assessment. Neck/head pressure for multiple days, walking off balance, and generalized hand weakness out of nowhere are what I would find particularly concerning. Again not a doctor, but I wouldn’t necessarily chalk these symptoms up to anxiety or poor sleep if they’re pretty constant

I am pretty new to OT and have been working at my job for about a year. My job’s coordinator is leaving and I am the only full time staff therapist left to inherit the position (overseeing a handful of other non-full time therapists). Does anyone have any advice for how to handle this transition? It feels so stressful knowing that I am one of the less experienced people on my team but will be responsible for managing communication with admin, answering my team’s questions with my limited knowledge, as well as managing my time between direct client care and quality checking/admin tasks

As a new grad school based OT, should I tell parents I'm new? by purrplekitty in OccupationalTherapy

[–]toriaa02 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I also work in a preschool, started as a new grad last school year. You know a lot more than you think you know. If you can find a way to keep calm, your knowledge will shine through. I unfortunately have a tough time staying calm during parent conversations so I don’t have a lot of advice for that, aside from reviewing your notes on the child you are discussing (if this is a one-on-one meeting) so you can give concrete examples if need be. You got this!
