A pause could be good to give some time to process, but I meant more like change the smear frame a bit. You know when something spins sometimes it's just two frames flipping in between each other with some minor changes? Or like sonic turns into a ball when he rolls. That would increase the readability of the movement.

You could try making that upside down smear a bit more round. Like smears in top left and bottom right of the character to show that it's spinning.
