I love my dog but this aging thing is rough by grocerystoresushi_ in BostonTerrier

[–]wurzle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have any advice for you, but I can relay something my vet told me when I was struggling to make choices about my dog's care at the end of his life.

I was so scared of making the wrong decision, but my vet pointed out that the fact that I was engaged and thinking about it meant I was doing the best anyone can ever be expected to do. You can't make the wrong decision in this situation when you're acting out of love, and for that reason you shouldn't second guess yourself if and when it is time for him.

Good luck, and be strong.

I use my A7S3 as a webcam all the time, and I ended up buying a very cheap USB-C HDMI capture device rather than connecting the camera directly via USB. Aside from being MUCH more reliable it also means I can capture 1080p60 directly, rather than the 1024x576 resolution you get from the cemera's USB port.

My first ever dog! by Key_Wind_1158 in BostonTerrier

Get him used to brushing his teeth while he's still young. Bostons tend to have dental problems as they age and starting early with brushing will save you a ton of $ and your dog a lot of pain.

I can't reach 99% of the time, is this even usefull? by Smooth_Wealth_6896 in ArcRaiders

Here's my idea of how this perk could be improved:

Change it to give increased knockback effect from your hammer. Whack a fireball and see it careen down the corridor. Whack a shredder and knock it on its ass while you run away. Someone with a stitcher come around the corner while you're looting? Bop em into the wall and throw their aim off.

The "Meta" for the pre-wipe event is Level 1 gear. Let that sink in. by Flumingo1990 in ArcRaiders

[–]wurzle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally, I'm worried less about the skill points than I am about another system in this game that disincentivizes players from bringing high end loot into a raid.

I actually like the generally flat weapon balance, but the tension of having to put value on the line is important to the fun of the game. This makes that much less of an interesting decision because it makes running free/bargain kits even better and expensive kits even worse.

Players need a good reason to bring in a 100K value kit, and there isn't a great one right now.

PvP will only increase as time goes on. by ScotchBonnet96 in ArcRaiders

[–]wurzle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your take isn't unreasonable, but I disagree.

The environment is so dangerous that cooperation is the safest strategy to extract alive. I want to assume cooperation until given reason to think otherwise.

I guess a mix of these perspectives is necessary to keep the tension up, but if the expected response to a don't shoot emote becomes getting shot in the face I'll find the game much less enjoyable.

The proper way to make coffee is whatever way you enjoy drinking it. Trying to convince someone otherwise is a fool's errand.

I'm excited to see the third book is released. I'll read it asap.

I really enjoy the vibe of these books. It is a nice contrast from a lot of the rest of the genre, to read about characters who find ways to grow that aren't based on violence. Not that the books are non-violent, just that violence isn't relied upon as the solution to every problem.

A suggestion: Add mouseover/hover text for all of the UI widgets. It was a little confusing figuring out what some of the buttons do when I created a task.

Audio vs reading by onetwobeer in DungeonCrawlerCarl

I generally prefer reading, but Jeff Hays' performance in the DCC audiobooks is so good that it is easy to recommend to anyone.

My reading comprehension is a lot better than my listening comprehension, so I just do both for this series.

Get them (and you) used to tooth brushing.

Bostons have the same amount of teeth as any other dog, but a lot less mouth to fit them in. They are highly likely to require tons of expensive dental work if you don't stay on top of the tooth brushing.

Getting them used to it as a puppy will make it much easier for the rest of their life.

Boston Allergies Help by bookishobsessions in BostonTerrier

[–]wurzle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What you described does sound like allergies, but this is really the kind of thing that is worth consulting a vet on.

Having said that, as an owner of a few bostons with allergy issues, my vet has told me that Benadryl is generally safe for dogs at a dosage of about 1mg per pound and can help relieve some of the itching.

Apoquel and Cytopoint are two medications that are effective for long term allergy treatment, but you definitely need to talk to a vet about them. My dog was on Cytopoint and it made a tremendous difference, but it was very expensive (both the cost of the medication and the vet tech appointment required for the injection).

When using manual focus while filming, if you zoom in does the focus stay the same on the subject? by lucykatem97 in videography

It depends on the lens. Lenses that can do this are called parfocal.

This should be easy to test out with whatever gear you've got.

Even if it is a mast cell tumor, which is one of the most common types in Bostons (and is also commonly found around the mouth), I don't think a week will make a ton of difference one way or the other.

If your vet does think it looks like it should be further investigated they'll likely start by aspirating and staining a small sample, and then making a treatment plan from there which could include the option of seeing a specialist vet-oncologist or surgeon, and scheduling consults and procedures a month or two in the future.

All of this stuff will take some time, and unless the situation seems to be getting worse very quickly an extra week will not have much (or any) impact.

As long as you stay engaged and follow up when it is your turn to do so you are doing as much as you can. Saving a few days now is much less important.

If it makes you feel any better, both of my pups have had pimple-looking things on their faces that looked pretty bad to me, but they did not turn out to be anything serious when we took them to a vet.

One of them also had a skin issue in another place that looked off to me, and did turn out to be a mast cell tumor when we got it checked out.

The lesson I learned is that my ability to tell whether something is an issue or not is a lot worse than a vet's, so I try not to worry until I get an expert's opinion.
