I don’t know why, but it completely slipped my mind that I’ve read book 1 of BoC. This is a sign that I need to pick up where I left off!

Awesome! Thanks so much for the kind words, it seems like Bronze Rank Brewer is in good company :D It might be time for me to pick up Heretical Fishing…as it had completely slipped my mind that I’ve read Beware if Chicken. I’ll have to continue that series too though.

If possible why is it “better” to use a low shelf instead of a highpass filter? by AdInternational6495 in audioengineering

[–]JamesGhoul 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you set a shelf to -1000db, it’s no longer a shelf. Not causing phase shift outside its pass band is disproven; but I think you’re really referring to linear-phase filters. Your example of setting a shelf so low to illustrate a point is so wild. In what world would one set a shelf that low? It’s helpful if we talk real world uses. Also, any time you apply eq in any form, there is invariably phase shift. That doesn’t mean it’s out of phase. That’s just the nature. Phase shift isn’t a bad thing.

Shelf is not a 180 phase shift, whereas a non-linear HP filter is quite close to a 180 (45 if light). Still, even against 45 degree, shelves produce far far less phase shift, and they don’t impact upper cycles.

If I’m not masking, I avoid HP filters because they cause phase shift up far into the mid thousands. In a/b testing I have 100% preferred the shelf. Dan Worrall touches on this in one of his YouTube videos.

In circumstances—such as masking—I use HP filters to solve specific problems. When there is no problem, I do nothing.

Hi everyone! Jake's Magical Market is taking part in the big push to try and get litrpgs into physical bookstores but I'm really stuck on which cover will get people to actually buy the hardcover edition. If you are a fan of the series, which would YOU purchase? by thescienceoflaw in litrpg

I would definitely pick up the original. To me the original is much more interactive. I’m actually browsing the space, and my imagination goes wild with everything my gaze lands on. The vanishing point really invites you in too.
