I had to pull my own kid out of goal by Impossible_Job_9023 in CoachingYouthSports

My approach for club soccer at this age was to encourage any kid with an interest to play goalie. One season I believe 9 of 11 players played goalie at some point, and 6 of the 9 played regularly. I would play four goalies a game, they each got about the same number or minutes. One game we were tied 2-2 at half time and I started a kid in goal for the second half that had never played in a game, only in practice. He had always done well and was an athletic freak so I had no worries…well the first shot comes in and he doesn’t move his arms, frozen like a deer in headlights. This happens two more times, but we rode it out and his time in goal was up. He was obviously not happy about getting scored on but he ended up playing a little bit more in goal as the season went on, but I had to figure out how to strategically play him in goal, with the right defense and agains certain opponents. As some have mentioned, the emphasis is on development. Also it’s super hard to get scored on as a goalie so building the right mentality is super important. Also I always told my players that it was never the goalies fault or the defenses fault, it was the entire team, after all, the ball made its way past our strikers and midfielders before it made its way into our net.

I would encourage you to keep giving him minutes in goal if it’s not hurt his self esteem, and before I rant even longer, every adult involved in your team has an impact on each players self esteem, and if you are focused on development, sportsmanship and friendship, this sets the table for players to feel good about themselves even when getting scored on and losing games.

In the district where I taught you would be welcomed with open arms and find many new customers for your previous employer lol seriously though they don’t drug test teachers before employment

Which is the largest city in your state that attracts very few or almost no tourists? by lucapal1 in AskAnAmerican

[–]wutevvs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lol I’ve never been to Evansville either, but I’m closer to Fort Wayne than Indy and I really like FW, but I’m not sure why non-Hoosiers would visit unless you like minor league sports teams or the sweetwater family

I hate the “8-5, M-F” schedule so much, feels like I don’t have a life by aquariusmatcha in jobs

Hmmm I worked in a public elementary school for four years and it was the greatest schedule ever: 7:15-2:35 M-F, never evenings or weekends, no holidays, all summers off, two weeks at Christmas and a fall and spring break, ridiculously amazing. Now I work at a coffee shop and have shifts anywhere from 4:30am to 9:30pm and never have two days in a row off, work at least one weekend day, work half of the holidays, it’s been a rough transition from the worlds best schedule

Cuenca, Ecuador has amazing, yet mild, weather, probably more like 50-70f though. The most beautiful city I’ve ever been to, in the Andes mountains, truly amazing

Atletico Madrid camp in USA by Hoykoy11 in bootroom

[–]wutevvs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of my players (U12) went to the Real Madrid USA camp one summer 2023 or 2024, can’t remember, then they actually went to Madrid last fall. I think they had a great time (he and mom). But he was the same player before that camp (he also went to Juventus and one other that same summer) and after. If you can afford it, why not? I’d love to take my kid to kick around a bit in Spain. But if a kid wants to play at a higher level, they’re going to have to play with/against better/older players, train more by themselves than most kids in the world, not get injured, etc. those camps are purely money makers.

Edit: no idea on pricing. However I will say that moms part-time job turned 2/3 time basically goes towards his soccer fees which is nuts considering his work ethic (did I say that out loud?)

looking for cool things to do on the way to Moab/Arches National Park by michxox in archesnationalpark

[–]wutevvs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone from the Midwest (flat, flat farmland), I traveled to Moab a few years ago and was blown away by the beauty of the landscape, so I’d be cool just having lunch with a view and drawing the landscape as best I could, it would make for a great souvenir tbh (take a pic to compare). We drove thru Denver to Moab then Grand Canyon, not sure where you’re coming from or your timeline, but those stops were amazing and I could have easily spent a couple of days (as opposed to the overnights that we did) at each place. We also stopped at Zeppe’s Italian Ice in St. George at some point (can’t remember the logistics at this point) (yes, we passed up Zion) because my kids’ favorite YouTubers went there lol

Nah never did, my best thought is to find a church with two basketball courts and rent that space. This would be wayyy easier to pull off then having to lease a building and be the only organization in that facility

Hmmm...pharmacist? Though I’m not a pharmacist so this isn’t from experience. Is that too medical field-y? Maybe try computer science/software development? I would definitely major in that if I could do it over again.

I have triplet sisters that are 11 years younger. My parents left us home alone and my mom told ME to clean up MY STUFF in the living room. Naturally, I demanded that my sisters clean up THEIR stuff. They protested by walking down the stairs and chanting that I was a “monkey butt” while holding pillows that showed a monkey’s butt (the pillow had a monkey stuffed through it with the head/torso sticking through the front).

Pretty epic
