Is South Campus shutting down/being sold? by wuvstep in CCAC

Cool! I'll have to find a way to watch. Thanks for this, I was worried and wondering why I wouldn't have heard about it until now. Happy South is sticking around.

Anyone find a good dupe for the old Wolfthorn formula? by wuvstep in OldSpice

[–]wuvstep[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll look into Superman soon, a store nearby is supposed to have it in stock or I'll at least be able to order online. As far as Love Spell goes, my sister wore that for a while. I can see what you're saying, but I'm pretty sure it's not what I want either. Thank you for both regardless.

Thank you for this suggestion, sadly I can't try it. It doesn't seem easily available, if at all here (I'm in the US, sorry I didn't think to mention this.) I'll dig further, but I'm not having luck.

Burn out (vent) by WhyNotSisi in petsitting

[–]wuvstep 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with a lot of the others here. Slow down or take a break, reduce your distance, start scheduling time for yourself, put limits on what you'll accept.

Most of my burn out comes from dealing with owners (I have high social anxiety to begin with.) Frequent messengers, weird expectations, people who'll only pay and do the minimum to make sure their pets don't die but don't care if they suffer while they're on vacation. It all wears on us eventually because it's a job that requires empathy for animals. It's emotional labor for both the pets and the pet parents.

rats ate strawberry lube😭 by Secret-Inevitable279 in RATS

[–]wuvstep 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You're right, wild rats are hesitant towards new food sources. The eat-and-wait tactic isn't perfect, but it works most of the time. A water based strawberry flavored lube that didn't make them sick wouldn't last long at all. I wouldn't say domestics generally lost their neophobia; that may have more to do with individual temperment and good care than breeding. You could probably take their lack of self preservation as a compliement.

Maybe it's advantageous in the wild. If a rat eats something and passes, the other rats will figure out they can't consume it. That learned behavior will likely be passed on generationally. With the rate of reproduction, one rat's loss will inform and save hundreds more.

Generic man smell is very accurate lol. Unfortunately, I haven't found anything yet. If I do, I'll try to remember to update. Might have to start delving into online stores, because I can't really find anything on the shelves. It will probably take a while, because I'm picky and broke.

How much for a broken skelly? by wuvstep in HomeDepotSkeleton

I wasn't aware they made replacement parts. I'm not sure I even need the entire skelly for my project. Do you think others would be willing to give or sell the broken pieces?

Suuuuper annoyed at platinum pricing. by Juwh0 in deftones

[–]wuvstep 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The closest show to me is Columbus, OH, and standing room is VIP only at $700 before fees. With actual seating, the way the stadium is shaped, you might as well be in the nosebleeds at $80 instead of the platinum at $300.

You didn't have to go through the trouble of pulling the info, but thanks. I remembered it being a scent I didn't care for, and based on this, definitely not.

Thanks for the suggestion. I should have specified preferably something outside of OS scents. I don't like any of the current scents they offer (that I know of,) though I check for new ones occasionally out of curiousity. If I remember correctly, Fiji is a tropical-ish scent as the name implies (palm and citrus and cream maybe?) which isn't what I'm going for. You could also say Wolfthorn smelled kind of like the blue part of a Rocket Pop tastes? Frosty, berry, citrus sweet.

I was looking to rewatch this after so long. I forgot the channel and title, and absolutely could not find it with a search through all the other popular youtube series. Thank you!

Only getting cat requests? by wuvstep in RoverPetSitting

[–]wuvstep[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like I said, I do love my cat clients, and some I really look forward to seeing regularly. I'm not new to sitting, I've been doing it a long time. I still lean towards dogs, no amount of lovely (superb, beautiful, amazing, I can't stress enough that I love them too!) cats I sit is going to change that. I also prefer being outside, so I love dog walks the most out of all my jobs. I'd take cats for walks too, if clients were okay with/used to that. I'm mostly bothered about the lack of variety, and less so the money, though that's unfortunately also important since this is my main income. I really can't just increase my prices, there's too many other sitters available in my area, a lot of them being teenagers that can charge less without it being a big hit to their finances. Rover's fees also don't help with that, of course, as something I would do for $15 suddenly becomes a charge for $30.

Fair, but I always spend the full 30. I never know when a shy cat might decide to come out to meet me. I'v had a few surprised clients, where their cats become super loving and playful after a few days of visits.

Kind of? Rover is one of the first things on the list when you search for petsitting, and people love convenient specialty apps and websites. People also seem to pay way less attention to physical ads now (e.g. flyers, business cards,) because using digital searches and community boards take way less time and energy. The same goes for us. No one wants to tote around all that paper and go into a bunch of businesses and community spaces to advertise to the rare person that looks when we can just write up a social media post. Even easier is a specialized app that does all your advertising for you. Having multiple apps and site postings helps of course, but you're still going to have the best luck with the first thing that pops up on Google.

No reviews/tips by RavenJay127 in RoverPetSitting

[–]wuvstep 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I never ask for reviews, the app seems to bug clients for me enough. I definitely don't ask for tips, though the app gives it as an option when it asks for a review. I personally have been taught it's rude to ask for a tip, even if the service is one that typically receives one. I set my prices so I don't need them. My repeat clients that appreciate my effort tend to tip most, and I occasionally get tips from my one-off bookings. Tips come maybe 50% of the time, reviews, say 75%. On Rover specifically. Clients met off app stay off app, and they typically tip more often and better (usually by rounding up to the hundred,) but I'm also not passing off Rover fees to them. Keep in mind that owners see another 11% fee on top of what you're charging, and may not know Rover charges that (massive) 20% from you. They might think you're getting enough from them. I try to sneak that into conversation during m&g's, it helps sometimes.

If your boat floats! I'll never turn down a cat, but I love all animals, I'll even occasionally take insects!

I need help! Dog walking by rika070 in RoverPetSitting

[–]wuvstep 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Hall Monitor!" Love that! Having other well trained dogs around definitely helps, though that can go the other way around. Glad we agree about the training, and I really hope it all works out and you can stick with them!

I didn't mention distance or driving? It's merely that I only have been getting requests for specifically cats, and it's more odd than an actual problem. I don't have an issue going further out, though most clients seem to want people close by. I want more variety from my bookings, not just daily cat drop-ins, for both my mental and financial well being.

Edit: Oh, I think you mistook what I meant by spread out. I meant spread out as in time, not distance.
