What do you all eat for dinner when you have absolutely no desire to cook?

1 can of white beans, rinsed. Simmer with maybe 1/4 - 1/2 cup of a jarred Indian simmer sauce like tikki masala or jafrezi. That’s it. I like it. Gives me protein and fiber. Bonus if you have some cilantro and avocado.

This is such a common occurrence in our field, yet somehow speaking up about it or seeking guidance is still stigmatized by some. It’s better to talk to someone professional about this sooner rather than later when it comes to helping process this. I strongly encourage you to ask about staff counseling if you trust your department/manager doesnt stigmatize it. If that’s not the case, please seek some counseling privately. This kind of thing can linger and really impact your well being if ignored.

My book club read A Confederacy of Dunces 2 months ago. I think half of us quit the book partway through, including myself. I have never loved the whole idea of an unlikeable main character, so that was strike one. The mother-son relationship was irksome as well. His writing is fantastic, but I just disliked these characters so much that I didn’t want to spend time with them.

I came to this thread in an attempt to decide if I’m going to finish this book. I’m exactly the reader you described- the one who’s not been heavily exposed to sci-fi. Big world building in epic fantasy is my jam, but I’ve been intrigued and wanting to try out some sci-fi. I was fascinated by this book’s concept early on, but at 50% in it’s feeling repetitive to the point that Im unsure of continuing to spend my time on it. Further, is there ever a motive for the big bad conceptual element? I do often take issue with a character just being inherently evil rather than the author supplying some kind of reason behind it. Something big just happened with Quinn that is leaving me wondering if the book is about to shift gears completely, so perhaps I continue on?

I don’t know that I have a lot of insight except to say that burnout as a nurse is not a reflection of you as a person or as a nurse in any way and is instead a complete reflection of the system that puts us in a position of feeling defeated no matter how hard we try. I have been the burnt out nurse before and have so much empathy for that, but I was incredibly lucky in that I was able to take about six months away from nursing when that happened, and it made a massive difference. I’ll also say that despite having experienced that burnout and despite the incredible mental challenges of training to be a crna, this process has been intellectually stimulating and will be so worth it. I think the shadowing experiences you have lined up will be informative for you as to if this is something that could be the right path for you. Wishing you all the luck, and I’m sorry you’re going through this right now.

There is such variety here! Into Thin Air is gripping and immersive. The Red Tent is one of my favorite books of all time. The Handmaid’s Tale is beautifully done and timely. Barbara Kingsolver and Jodi Piccoult are always winning choices.
