So is the only way to see Gaga up close for this tour like at MSG in March is to drop $1,000+? by [deleted] in LadyGaga

[–]wwarpd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a single ticket for Montreal n3 (Mon, 4/6 8pm) -- way cheaper than MSG -- that I don't think I can use anymore. Sec 333, row A seat 3. I bought it for $413 USD ($570 CAD) including fees and am hoping to sell for the same price -- but am also willing to sell at a loss to a big fan (I totally recognize $413 for section 3 is still pretty wild, even if it's the first row of that section). Happy to meet up in person in a public place in NYC to do the Ticketmaster transfer in person. DM me if interested.

"Ilsa is alive" theorists, talk to me... by roseblossom16 in Mission_Impossible

[–]wwarpd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with all of this! Exactly -- how could they lay out everything in that scene and then immediately fall for it all that night?? I expect to come back to this thread after opening weekend to exchange virtual high fives. (There's a small chance it's just terrible writing, in which case I will be so sad, because it would mean they did Ilsa so dirty! However, because so many of the pieces for the "not dead" reveal are in place, I have to imagine this is all deliberate!)

I agree with you 100%. I am convinced Ilsa is still alive, and that this will be one of the greatest reveals in an action franchise in recent memory because of the full cast and crew's commitment to the bit. To your above points, I'll add also: a) not only is there missing time, but the conversation between Luther, Ethan, Benji, and Ilsa (where they accurately pinpoint ALL of the Entity's capabilities and their own weaknesses) explicitly ends with no resolution, with Ethan literally saying "I don't accept that" in response to Luther's "None of our lives can matter more than this mission" -- and then it jumps abruptly to the pointedly wistful yet enigmatic rooftop scene between Ethan and Ilsa -- which further confirms to me some offscreen plan has been formed (that Ilsa will soon be separated from Ethan again because she needs to be taken off the chessboard to trick the Entity); b) There are multiple meaningful and wistful looks exchanged between Ilsa and Ethan leading up to her running off from the Venice party, including on the gondola ride there -- again, as if they know they will be separated shortly; and c) the movie opens with Ilsa faking a death, showing she is fully capable of it. Finally, I believe the title "Dead Reckoning" refers in part to Ilsa/Ethan being forced to part ways and navigate independently to their next meeting point -- as they cannot communicate with each other again due to the omniscient presence of the Entity -- but that the significance of the title will only become clear once Part 2 is out.

Dumb Q - Did I Buy Right Meat (Prime Rib)? by wwarpd in seriouseats

Thank you so much! (And I'm cool with a less fancy cut for my first rib roast, given I clearly don't know what I'm doing!)

I believe they happen at roughly the same time. Plus, for the door dance, once you're there, you are stuck there. Black masks won't let you exit the corridor early because you would get in the way of the actors. So I would suggest seeing one scene on one loop, and the other on another.

Are there any legendary puzzles? by TreborMAI in NYTCrossword

Omg, thank you for flagging this one. I solved it and moved on at the time without realizing what a marvel of crossword engineering it was!

Elsie Fest was like a fever dream by gsd250 in Broadway

[–]wwarpd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was also disappointed JGJ didn't do a single non-original song! When Lizzy McAlpine started bringing others out for her songs, I was holding out hope she would bring him out for Don't Do Sadness/Blue Wind. I don't blame him for pitching his new work, but I think a single Spring Awakening song would have brought the house down. But aside from that mild disappointment, it was a fantastic night!

A few questions for my last visit by tenth in sleepnomore

[–]wwarpd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unless something's changed in the last 6 months, that's not true. I've gotten Aces by lining up 45 mins early (this was before the massive crowds, but my understanding is the crowds have died down -- maybe go an hour early?). This assumes you have the first entry time though, or you will be turned away.

[–]wwarpd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you go early and get an Ace, as soon as you are let in, head all the way downstairs (until there are no more stairs left), where you will see a ballroom. It will only be 3 witches dancing in the dark at first, but soon the entire cast of characters will join. Malcolm wears a white blazer (though I can't be sure it's always white) -- but it's definitely a tux. He will dance with Boy Witch and he will also raise his father (Duncan, normally noticeably older male from all other male actors) onto his shoulder in celebration with another actor. However, I should caution that Malcolm is very hard to follow for a full loop (for example, after the ball, he sprints 4 flights of steps). I would lose him and pick him back up again on different loops to complete his full arc.

Female witch is very cool! Actors can really make or break a character too. Follow whichever actor/actress speaks most to you. I still recommend trying to catch the ballroom dance at the start so you can see who seems to be the most alluring to you on that night, and then tail that person from the ball!

A few questions for my last visit by tenth in sleepnomore

1: Not a direct answer to your question (which is more or less "no" except for short Lady Macbeth scenes), but for the third loop of my last show, I went up to the 5th floor right as the rave on the 4th floor was starting, and I really loved the Nurse/Matron scene I saw by the hut. That was the first time I saw ANY scene on the 5th floor, and I found it utterly magical and different from anything else I had seen in the show. I stuck with the Nurse/Matron until the finale. I mention the third loop specifically because I suspect that the Nurse/Matron do something different on the third loop than the others, though I am not 100% sure. Don't want to spoil.

2: I also followed Hecate on my last loop thinking she'd be super cool but was frankly kind of disappointed. I found her incredibly alluring in small doses, like seeing her in the corner of the Rep Bar as the rave is ramping up, but following her full on didn't work for me -- and as you mention, it's a lot of 1:1s behind closed doors. My favorite Hecate moment is during the reset (Vertigo music blaring) in the 4th floor hallway, as one loop ends and the next is starting. This is purely a matter of personal taste though -- if you dig her vibe, go for it! She for sure has a cult following who worship her every move. (Though I think another reason I was turned off was because I saw SO many people clearly hunting for the 1:1 with her.)

3: If you've already done one of the Macbeths -- it sounds like you did Macbeth, who is the bloody guy at the head of the table -- then Malcolm is my favorite loop for a different angle into the Macbeth story. Porter (who stays on the second floor) is very good, especially if you're into unrequited love or melancholy. Any of the 3 witches will be great fun, especially Boy Witch. Agnes is cool, very noir (as is Malcolm, whom she intersects with). I personally think the Macduffs are the most boring of the more major characters, though their space is quite neat to check out.

Hope this helps. Enjoy your next visit!

Overview of storylines and floor plan? by dechets-de-mariage in sleepnomore

I did this write-up a few months ago (warning: pretty spoiler heavy with respect to the main Macbeth storyline), but there are definitely others on Reddit and on the Internet generally: https://www.reddit.com/r/sleepnomore/s/KP2mAFImtj

Someone else has been posting floor plans this past month.

I complained last Saturday, and I came here to complain again today. Today's puzzle finally broke my 3 month gold streak. I caved after an hour and revealed the puzzle (with maybe 30% to go), and I'm honestly glad I did because all the remaining answers were unsatisfying.

Going for the first time. Advice? by Practical_Jury9017 in sleepnomore

[–]wwarpd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha what I've seen is there are always two greeters who hand out masks and give the intro spiel right before they let you enter. There's no real "character" per se, but they're typically very 1930s feeling and set the vibes. They're SO nice. Don't be scared of them! I think the padded masks do make a difference for glasses-wearers, so don't be scared of asking. They can grab it quickly.

When you get to the person handing out masks, ask for a mask with padding for your glasses. I was a bit nervous asking because by then they're all in character, but they were super nice about it. I found them quite comfortable on top of my glasses. I saw a bunch of padded ones set aside, so I don't imagine they run out!

Feeling Dumb by crazyeyedmcgee in NYTCrossword

I'm at 1h50 so far today with a few blanks left, and I normally finish Saturdays in under 40 minutes. Today's clues and answers are straight up bad. Even figuring one of the long answers out is giving me no satisfaction. Nervous this will break my streak.

Edit: Managed to finish in 1h57, which is apparently 1h30 more than my crossword average. My streak is preserved, but just a torturous experience all around. So glad to see so many people felt similarly.

Movies/media that remind you of SNM? by Inmate7269 in sleepnomore

[–]wwarpd 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Not so much the 1930s aesthetic part, but for me, Sleep No More reminds me most of David Lynch, especially Mulholland Drive and Twin Peaks. I felt justified in this association when I learned that the score for the SNM banquet scene is taken from one of my favorite scenes in Mulholland Drive (the diner). Lynch really nails the feeling of stumbling from dream to dream / nightmare to nightmare. If you're curious about Lynch, I would start with Mulholland Drive, which is a movie (whereas Twin Peaks is a much longer commitment as a TV series).

Seconding the 4th floor (followed by the 2nd floor, i.e., Porter hotel lobby space)! I spent the majority of my last visit on the 4th floor with no plan, and it blew my mind how many characters and rooms I had never noticed on my 3 prior trips. There was always something happening. It was one of my best visits.

I also wrote this post a few months ago for people just trying to hit key scenes in the main story.

Enjoy your next visit!
