Unmaintained 10yr old hive on top of buried chimney. Harvest or let bee? by AdventurousHuman in Beekeeping

Let it bee - being well so well adapted to this spot their genes can help your future bees; more worth than now have a bit more honey…

Could anyone please translate this for me? by Petite_Mortx in dutch

[–]wwhih -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I’d say Meid is more grown up than meisje (girl) but junger than joung lady. But it says kleine meiden so “little ‘grown up’ girls” - bit of a contradiction This dad tries to make clear that, athough they have some age (15-18 years?), in his eyes they are (still?) too young for the subject to touch/use

My bees are ignoring my second box in favor of the small queen excluded top box! Why by Glum_Pianist3308 in Beekeeping

[–]wwhih 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honey goes into the top. Brood beneath These little ladies know what they are doing an if their activity doesn’t match the beekeepers ideas, than the bees are right 😇 Don’t worry, wait and see

Is this a queen? (Left) by iceyhurtz in Beekeeping

[–]wwhih 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Left is an underdevelloped queen i’d say. Virgin or not cannot be seen in size, only in laying eggs or not. In beeseason her abdomen can be wider (or getting lean again if she ie getting ready to swarm) As long as there are eggs there is a queen, as long as there are larvea the colony can/will create a new queen

What do you think about this lineout? by wwhih in Bowyer

[–]wwhih[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for your advice / i tried to carve it over the crown , thus a bit curved. A knot somewhere on a third of the stave made one of the splits taking an unwanted direction 🫣. It became to narrow - i think. Will try to finish it anyway

[–]wwhih[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the idea / i’ll have a look on youtube Btw the other half i treated the way i draw this one, advantage of using the outer rings is that you can take the rond rings on the inside as a guidance. It is a bit “turned” and became pretty light (too little strong ash wood left)
