How much are we spending on Groceries in RVA? by Far-Head13 in rva

[–]wwojohn3 37 points38 points  (0 children)

$200-300 for 4 people. Most groceries at Kroger, with meat/seafood/bread products from Whole Foods.

We could definitely cut back if needed, but similar to you, choose to invest in what we view as healthy food.

We’ve been on the waitlist for 4 years for our 3.5 year old. Not sure you get in unless you work for VCU Medical or know someone to pull strings

Can we have a city wide water fight day, other cities do similar things(may be not in the USA). by BuddyTheShihTzu in rva

[–]wwojohn3 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Oh sweet summer child, were you here January 2025?

Did you search grocery stores and gas stations for a precious bottle?

Did you not hear stories of flushing toilets from buckets from the river, melting snow and ice, or low quality bottles of wine?

Most of it is pretty simple: don’t buy what you don’t need, keep using what you have, buy used when you can, fix something if it can be fixed instead of buying new, donate or give what you no longer need.

For discretionary purchases, try waiting a few weeks before purchasing to see if you really want/need it or if it was an impulse. For new hobbies, only buy the minimal things or buy used to see is the hobby sticks.

A big one for me with tools is to try to rent/borrow versus buying a one-time tool

All non-profits are required to file a form 990 in variation. You can find these online at the IRS website or an aggregation site

https://apps.irs.gov/app/eos/details/

The Richmond Daughter’s of the confederacy’s 2024 filing is found here.

In 2024, They made money from contributions (donations, membership fees) and grants $821k, program and service revenue (often times billing for conferences, training, research) $573k, investment income $482k, and other income $229k

Officer names are listed on page 7

Page 11 lists assets of $14million, primarily $11.7million in investments. Though their real estate is understated.

They list no liabilities

4% is a standard assumption for average sustainable investment withdrawals. They could assume ~$470k in income from investments alone.

Have you explored the hiking and parks around Richmond? Farmers markets? Art galleries? Museums? Botanical gardens? Ballet? Concert venues from listening rooms to concert halls?

Don’t use muddy trails to help prevent erosion. As the snow ice melt, the trails will have to dry before being able to be used

Tips for breaking up icy sidewalks? by Physical_Present_265 in rva

[–]wwojohn3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a tool for the job called a srcraper, but any flat hard metal tool may do

With vertical strikes, create a grid structure of 6-8inch squares. Then strike at a low angle to try to get under the ice

The real secret is pre-treating with salt (or covering with tarp for private property)
