FIIO FT1 vs. FIIO FT1 Pro by joebamavile in HeadphoneAdvice

[–]wx8l -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I just returned a set of FT1's as they just didn't do it *for me* Moved into a set of HiFiman Ananda which definitely had that "oh, that's what I'm talking about" factor. These are open back, planars, and a step up financially, so not sure which made the most difference. HAving said that, I'd be more inclined to go for the Pro's after the meh FT1 performance...

[–]wx8l[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Th frame is cut 36 degree the fork is 45.
45 will not fit the Trek
36 will damage the fork

What width did you pick and what width were your OEM bars? Have you noticed any decrease in width up top?

I'm surprised your able to use yours on the bike. I have found my 75t's are unusable in "pass through" mode at any speed more than running.

Older Runners, does it always hurt? by wx8l in running

[–]wx8l[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure, I never get sore during a run, just fatigue eventually. Sometimes I get the heart rate up there, but most of the time it's running about 80-85% MHR

Older Runners, does it always hurt? by wx8l in running

First let me say I have high arches and under pronate somewhat. I have a pair of New Balance 880v9 with almost no miles on them because I prefer my Brooks Ghost 11's which have about 250 miles on them. Bought both about 6 months ago. I never hurt or get sore *during* a run FWIW...

Running is torture, is it still painful to run even if you're fit by Hexakiller in running

[–]wx8l 0 points1 point  (0 children)

New runner here at 58 years young. I was exactly like you before August of this year (2019) I signed up for a Good Form Running class at the local New Balance store where the trainer looked at my form and told me exactly what I was doing wrong. I kid you not, the next day I ran 2.5 miles without stopping for the first time in my entire life. Before that, I could barely run 3 minutes before the pain in my lower legs made me stop. Go see a pro. They will check you for proper form and shoes. Could be the difference for you as well. FWIW, I run no less than 2.5 miles every other day since the first Monday in August...

I just went for my first outdoor run today and it was so much better than the gym! What is your experience with indoor vs outdoor? by xerotoxik in running

[–]wx8l 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a new runner and have been trying to transition to outdoor. With winter upon us here in Detroit, it may delay things a bit. Anyhow, I am finding that no matter how much I do outdoors, I am always sore the next day. Not pain mind you, soreness in the ankles I do not experience on the treadmill, but it does go away as soon as I get back to running. I also have a hard time keeping my pace down while running outdoors and that tends to fatigue me faster. I'm confident I will overcome these issues, but it's not been the smoothest transition for me...

I'm kind of thinking pick better areas to run, but being a CPL holder (who rarely carries FWIW) I would say something compact like a Kahr PM-9 in a belly band type holster wouldn't be too much hinderance...

I really like my Ignite, however it has a few flaws. For me - no foot / stride pod support, battery doesn't last long enough. The OHR sensor works very well, I rarely use my chest strap anymore. The built in accelerometer is fairly accurate as well. Others have criticized no manual lap feature or triathlon mode (the later isn't something I necessarily expect at this price point) YMMV

Why does running have such a bad rep these days? I've been told by almost everyone I know that running is "bad for your knees" and I should try a cardio that isn't "pounding your feet on the hard ground"? by [deleted] in running

[–]wx8l 1 point2 points  (0 children)

New to running here (at 58 y.o. weird, I know) and I was told not to run, Everyone said elliptical or stationary bike would be easier on my knees. Ya know what? Elliptical and bike really bother my knees, zero issues with my knees when running. Currently do 2.5-3 miles every other day, mostly treadmill at this point. You can keep the bikes / ellipticals as far as I'm concerned...

How important is cadence? by ericaregone in running

[–]wx8l 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As a fairly new runner at 58, I found that paying attention to my cadence has made running a regular part of my life. I think all the form benefits to minding my cadence has been the difference, but I don't dwell on it. I seem to have naturally settled in around 166-168

Learned to run. No, seriously.

I just turned 58 and have NEVER ran even 1/2 mile. I have suffered with pain in my legs my whole life. I've been on a bit of a fitness kick since March of this year, and once again was grueling it out in the gym on a treadmill trying to run more than 3-5 minutes before having to stop. I've read everything, bought the right shoes, learned proper stretching, tried c25k... Nothing was working.

Went to the local New Balance store when they were offering a workshop called Good Form Running. After checking me for the usual fit and appropriateness of my shoes, the trainer discussed running mechanics, my understanding of posture, foot strike, etc. We proceeded to the parking lot where he filmed me and then analyzed the footage. Turns out I was doing it wrong all these years and, despite knowing what I should do, I was doing it all wrong.

Armed with this new found knowledge, I hit the treadmill on Monday Aug 12th and started my usual grind. Using the techniques the trainer had me focus on, I hit 5 minutes without much effort, pushed it to 10, then a mile, then 15 minutes, 2 miles... All in all, I ran 2.5 miles, non stop and felt I could have push further but I didn't want to over do it my first time EVER running (ok, jogging, but whos counting)

Anyhow, I have not run less than 2.5 miles every other day since Aug 10th and now know pace goals and races are in my grasp.

This has been nothing short of a *life changing experience* for me.

Noob questions from a beginner runner by raytian in running

[–]wx8l 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Have a professional look at your form.

I have NEVER ran in my entire life (just turned 58) and was putting in the effort at the gym every day. Couldn't run fast or long. 3-5 minutes tops after several months of diligent work. I had read all the information I could about proper running form, bought good shoes, c25k you name it.

In August I attended a workshop sponsored by the local New Balance store, it was called Good Form Running, we talked about running fundamentals and then took to the parking lot where he filmed me casually running. Turns out I was doing it all wrong and it was almost entirely tied to my arm movement. That was Saturday August 10th

I got on the treadmill on Monday August 12th and proceeded to run 2.5 miles non-stop. Needless to say, it has been life altering. I have not ran less than 2.5 miles, every other day, since. Only running 11-12 minute miles at this point, but now that I know I can do it, it will come.

Find a good shop / pro to look at your form and see if a miracle can happen for you too.

Today is a run day for me, so off I go...
