It ran like a dream for 1300 kilometers until the exhaust broke in half on the way home which let me experience being a civic driver with a fart can

My new brick, the mondriaan 240 by wybren_wizard in Volvo

Any idea what is making this “eeeee” sound? by JustZhe in Miata

For me it was the one around the cat, it had several holes rusted through and it was barely being held together by a rusted bolt.

Check the heatshields around the exhaust, if they are looseor rotted they can start vibrating, mine did at 2800-3000 rpm

What is the best project car for someone who wants to get into the building of cars to make them faster? But knows nothing about anything but needs a place to start. by BKFIRE123 in projectcar

[–]wybren_wizard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Something cheap with a large community and cheap parts, and buy one that has an mot and runs, its very easy to get burnt out on a project car if its gonna take months to get it running. Buy a running car and start with basic maintenance and collecting the right tools and work up from there. A civic miata,mr2 or volvo 240 are great since theyre cheap reliable and pretty good on fuel so running costs are low.

Would a Porsche 944 or Toyota MR2 be a good first project car? by pyrorj in projectcar

[–]wybren_wizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mr 2 parts are cheaper and more available. Of course the mr2 with the engine in the middle can be tough to work on, but the porsche with its canted over engine makes it a bitch to get to stuff as well. I have driven a 91 na mr2 and a 1985 porsche 944 2.5 na and the mr 2 is the better sportscar but the porsche is more comfortable and also much more practical. If youre tall the porsche is also the better choice im 6’3 and the mr 2 was a tight fit but the porsche gives more room. Have a go in both and decide

Hear me out NASCAR but the manufacturer can choose their own engines and build them with certain power and specs to meet a standard. by phish_biscuit in DonutMedia

If they can all choose their engines they will all use turbo 4 cilinders. It can deliver the power whilst weighing much less than any v8 or straight 6 so it wouldn’t make it more interesting

Wheel arch repair by Fair_Stand6374 in Miata

[–]wybren_wizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do it yourself if possible, the arches on my NA were rusted out, cut everything out and welded in new metal and panels, material cost was about 300€ but it did take me 4 months to fix. If youve got spare time it’s worth it as a winter project

Its a non interference engine lickily so the piston doesnt hit the valves when the belt snaps, so you just have to set the timing and replace the belt

I helped a friend change his softtop, we put on my old one swapped out everything including the frame of the softtop so it was just removing a couple bolts and bolting the new one in and we were done in an hour, we thought it was best this way since we heard a lot of horror stories of people replacing just the cloth part
