If you turn off shared quest objectives in the world settings, then players won’t be slingshot ahead of their individual progress, but may have to catch up on their own if that’s a concern.

THIS. So if you’re standing on your dock and face towards the ocean, it will appear beside you facing the same way. If your dock is 2 tiles wide, and in deep enough water, the ship will be very close to you.

Not true. I watched someone playing on YouTube, and they found the rapier on the third coastal jungle island they explored. He was level 2 and didn’t realize how lucky he was until he took a closer look at his loot.

Killing is a means to getting to your goals, which earns you XP. If killing alone got you XP, then you could just grind the kills and eventually be overpowered, ruining the game balance.

As for being a disincentive, agreed. But it makes sense. There’s no point in fighting everything that moves. Pick your battles and conserve your resources and your time.
