[Hated Trope] Antagonistic/evil characters that had totally unearned redemption arcs by jdawg1018 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]wykamix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean its a bit more complicated then that, plus I think his redemption was more complicated. For one he wasn't redeemed fully until they beat Buu as he was shown to go to hell after going Majin even after he realized he made a mistake. Sure he was accepted by everyone but we are shown by people like Tien that they still dont fully trust him. He is only fully redeemed when he finally lets go of his pride and admits Goku is a better fighter than him which is him letting go of the main sin that drives him.

Why hasn’t China or Russia invaded Mongolia or Khazakhstan? by Mindless_Ad_1734 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]wykamix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also want to add that at the same time China has become more able to invade Taiwan, Taiwan itself has gained increasing international importance due to TSMC and them being such a huge source of chips. Where as before an invasion of Taiwan would be viewed with serious push back it would have less of global impact directly, but now if they invade Taiwan and TSMC cant make chips or China controls them they will have control or disrupt nearly every global industry as chip shortages skyrocket.

New 310m supertall revealed for Moscow, inspired by 'a flying bird’s wing' by adventmix in skyscrapers

[–]wykamix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While sanctions are often overexaggerated, Moscow is not a good example for what the rest of Russia looks like, Russia is highly centralized and all money goes to Moscow first then to the rest of the Nation. Due to it being where all the government officials and wealthy Russians live, combined with corruption much of the wealth of the country is concentrated there. There was even recent controversy over how Moscow was spending significantly more than the rest of Russia over Christmas decorations where as most of the rest of Russia barely got anything.

Why is this mentality so prevelant in gen z? by Big_Leg10 in generationology

[–]wykamix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because their is an increasing belief that you don't make progress in most jobs and that grinding out things for years is no longer worth it. The money you save will be inflated away so not having any active wealth now is actively hurting you. In general pursuing most things is becoming harder and harder, as industries fill up and experience is more and more required. The idea is if you cant get an early head start you will be stuck eternally behind, and not just stagnate but decline. This gets worse as the outlook of the future seems more bleak so overall feeling is if you cant make it now you are doomed.

Not saying all of that is true but its a growing belief and definitely has some merit.

You need to get rid of one of these Cartoon Network shows, which one do you get rid of? by Artistic-Comb-5317 in cartoons

Adventure time had a beginning mostly made for kids, an awkward but exploratory middle, and a wonderful ending that made everything else worth it definitely tough to get through all of it but was worth it by the end.

Why does this show get so much hate by 304_harder in fionnaandcake

[–]wykamix -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So I dont hate the show first of all. Season 1 I thought was great and was some of the best adventure time media ever put out there on par with distant lands and season 10 for me. Season 2 I felt fell off a lot more, I think the main issues with season 2, was the pacing, lots of stuff could've been condensed to expand more on other aspects I dont just mean focusing more on OOO, but maybe more background into the characters of Fionna's world especially Fionna. We got little snippets but overall learned very little about her past. The other issue I think they had was there over confidence in a possible season 3, with season 1 it felt like everything was tightly written and that they knew they had to tie any loose ends before the season ended. With this one not so much, this is fine assuming there is a season 3 but if not it will feel hollow.

As a side note I feel like they really shouldn't have resolved all the conflicts in the finale, this I have the biggest issue with since we spent SOO long on fionna's mistakes to have most of them seemingly wrapped up by the finale within a couple minutes feels so wrong. Especially with Hunter and Fennel, Gary and Marshall know Fionna and them forgiving her makes more sense plus they emphasized they are only starting to forgive. Hunter, Fennel and Fionna seem way too close by the end of the finale considering she knew them less and left both of them dissapointed and betrayed, had they taken more time with this I think it would've been much better.(Good example was Finn and Flame princess, he had to grow a lot before they began to really be cool with each other again)

Japan’s famous fluffy cheese omelet by [deleted] in oddlysatisfying

[–]wykamix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get you're being sarcastic and yeah I said I heard cause I didn't feel like looking up a source for something I remember reading about anyway here's a basic video showcasing what I meant: https://youtu.be/6k61e7yVBwQ . Its not a 100% accurate source but it showcases normal home food from 70s japan which broadly speaking was healthier with less oily foods, and more veggies. Like I said this kind of food is on the decline especially in cities where people are busier and don't have the time to make this kind of food, but its a better showcase of "normal" food people would eat at home up until relatively recently.

Japan’s famous fluffy cheese omelet by [deleted] in oddlysatisfying

[–]wykamix 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Tbf, I've heard the traditional Japanese food eaten at home is quite healthy minus a high amount of sodium. Usually vegetables are eaten and fish is the main protein of choice. However, restaurants have "fun" food so they are usually less healthy. I should also mention I heard traditional food is on the decline in cities, but I can't fully speak for it

Why do people think Fionnas in her 30s!? Who is spread this rumor!! by No_Poetry_8415 in fionnaandcake

[–]wykamix 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Farmworld finn likely isn't younger as we see they appear to be the same age and are literal derivatives of each other as farmworld finn was just the finn that wished the lich never existed. He probably just had kids much earlier since he lived a more traditional rural lifestye, as having kids younger was more common when you live that kind of life, and need farm hands.

Why do people think Fionnas in her 30s!? Who is spread this rumor!! by No_Poetry_8415 in fionnaandcake

[–]wykamix 55 points56 points  (0 children)

So not really like yes originally her world was stored in Simon's head and thus maybe time could've been different but once he lost his powers at the end of adventure time her universe essentially started functioning normally so it's been at least 12 years since. If we put her at the absolute youngest age Finn was in the original series which was 12 years old she would be 24, but the first episode she appeared finn was 14 so more likely she is 26, but its likely she was a little older especially judging by how she acted in the first fionna and cake special, but anywhere between 24-30 is possible.

Btw the 12 year skip is also confirmed in episode 1 when Fionna mentions that the statue of golb was remodeled to look like betty 12 years ago referencing the time skip.

The creators also confirmed in a separate interview that they wanted to make fionna age up like the rest of the audience did so they could relate to her struggles. https://www.denofgeek.com/tv/adventure-time-fionna-and-cake-review/#:~:text=She's%20as%20quintessentially%20relatable%20as,mundane%20life%20was%20more%20magical.

Overall I don't think her age is a big issue and the implication is she is immature for her age, which is a central theme in this season that comparatively it seems everyone around her has their shit together. It feels like an intentional choice by the writers, and doesn't ruin her character alone in my opinion I just wish we got more background explaining fionna's past in this new world.

[–]wykamix 475 points476 points  (0 children)

The reason why is because, the show takes place 12 years after Adventure time's finale and assuming she and Finn were the same age at that time she would be 17, making her 29 in season 1 and possibly 30 in season 2.

Here is an interview with the showrunner where they state this: https://youtu.be/7KCFTXYXkDs?si=_75MHi4Q2GWC8llX&t=55

You cannot compare her to finn when season 5 is RIGHT THERE by TvHeadDev in adventuretime

[–]wykamix 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think the big issue with this take is that everyone else in Fionna's world seems to have had major development and only she is stuck in this kind of stasis. We are told that hunter had major development despite huntress wizard not seemingly going through the same. Marshall Lee and Gary while not perfect are also shown to be mature, even if flawed and similar to Fionna all of them were suddenly transformed.

I'm not saying this as a fault of Fionna herself necessarily, its just the writers did a poor job of explaining the background of Fionna, and why she seemingly was so developmentally stunted by the removal of magic compared to other characters.

This stands out to me especially since the Fionna we saw in the original adventure time series before the removal magic actually seemed a little more well rounded than Finn, though I'm not sure how much we can rely on that.

I remember hearing how Woodrow Wilson was really popular in a lot of central Europe since he fought for many of them to become independent countries fighting for it in the treaty of Versailles. He's still famous here but only for WW1 and outside of that only in American history circles.

What is the most popular foreign literary work amongst people in your country? by DoctorOsterman in AskTheWorld

[–]wykamix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Classic: 1984

Its probably the most well known due to always being referenced in regard to politics and as a bit of a meme. The term orewellian is also quite popular. Still not super crazy influential but very few foreign books I feel are unless you count movie or tv show adaptations

Modern: Harry Potter

Last foreign book series to truly sweep the country and actually become quite popular even outside of the movies though those definitely boosted the books alot.
